Police in south Wales are looking for a 21-year-old known drug dealer in connection with the investigation into ecstasy which is believed to have contributed to the death of a teenager.

Detectives believe that four other people have been made ill using ecstasy in Merthyr Tydfil – two are still being treated in hospital.

There have been a number of police raids on houses in the area and South Wales Police have issued an appeal for help in tracing the source of the drug.

Gavin David Dwyer, from Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, collapsed outside the Kirkhouse nightclub in the town at around 1230GMT on Sunday 20 January .

The 18-year-old died on the way to Prince Charles Hospital in the town.

During the early hours of Sunday morning several other people were treated at the hospital for what is believed to have been the effects of ecstasy, said police

They are now concerned for the safety of anyone who may have taken the drug, especially in the Merthyr area.

“Gavin is believed to have taken the drug ecstasy which led to his death,” said a spokesman for the force.

“Other people are thought to have attended the hospital suffering from what may be the effects of ecstasy and police are concerned for the safety of anyone who may have taken the drug.

“Any information that may assist police in tracing the source of the ecstasy that might have contributed to Gavin’s death may be of benefit in preventing further casualties.”

A post mortem examination is due to take place on Monday.
