[h=2]Doctors in Poland have removed a screwdriver from the head of a 25-year-old man in a three-hour operation.[/h]crewdriver-polish-_2504617b.jpgThe man was doing some DIY in the garden when he slipped and fell face first onto his Phillips screwdriver. Dr Jan Kochanowicz, one of the doctors who treated the man in the Polish city of Bialystok, said the man apparently fell and lost consciousness, but could not remember doing so.

When he regained consciousness he was at first aware only of pain in a hand before realising something else was wrong. He walked to his car, looked in a mirror and noticed the screwdriver, penetrating his forehead just above his right eye.

The screwdriver was lodged about two inches inside the man’s forehead.

Dr Kochanowicz told the station TVN24 the man smoked a cigarette before calling a neighbor who got him to the hospital.

The screwdriver did not damage the man’s eyes or brain.

    ouch!

Dr Kochanowicz told the station TVN24 the man smoked a cigarette before calling a neighbor who got him to the hospital.

I’ve got a few Polish friends and this is exactly the sort of thing most of them would do if they met with a similar accident.. (after all you can’t smoke in the hospital, its against the rules everywhere in EU)

    Arrrrrgggghhhhhhh!!!!!
Why was the screwdriver facing up to the sky anyway!!

How does that happen? I guess if you trip and happen to land directly and perfectly on the tip of the screwdriver while it’s facing up..

its an electricians screwdriver – I wonder he was doing some electric work, got a blast off a live terminal 230V, and fell off his steps or ladder with the screwdriver in his other hand… instinct may well have made him try to steady his fall forgetting the screwdriver was still in his hand. Although insulated screwdrivers are very good things to have (I always carry a set for work) they can make you do silly and foolhardy things if you are not careful and want to save time (like working on live circuits when there is no need to). Ironically these days with insulated tools and RCDs less people are electrocuted but many are still injured by falling from height in this manner…

Another one is falling from a ladder which has a tray or bag of tools at the top, the contents of this then landing upon the head of the victim…
