ive been noticing the tendons in my arm becoming tender after a heavy sesh on the computer, be it writing or video editing, whatever.
i pay attention to the posture suggestions, and take regular breaks, and excercise, etc so my back is sorting itself out, but my hands and lower arms are fucking up now. im sure that there are excercises to help aleiviate the symptoms, but im fucked if i can find em.
it looks like there are so many different forms of rsi, from differnt activities, but mine are mainly from clicking and typing. i found this website which gives an over veiw, but i was wondering if anyone was exprincing, or has experienced, keyboard rsi, and had any tips?

I had experienced this in 1994 when using an IBM keyboard but it stopped in 1998 when I changed jobs. I think the IBM keyboard was a bad design, and the job itself was stressful.
I also get a few aches after a long day (I have to work on multiple machines at work) but deal with these by varying tasks and/or walking around so I am not always at the computer screen.
I also had mild RSI in 2003 after purchasing a touring bike with drop handlebars (racer style) having previously ridden mountain bikes. (see below) this only lasted for a day.
ISTR you are quite tall; this makes a difference as a lot of furniture is designed for a mythical average person who does not exist.
Pay particular attention to the layout of desks etc (ergonomics) – and one thing (which may be the main thing) are you taking enough breaks?
you are working for yourself rather than some boss, and doing something you enjoy so its easier to blot out the pain and work harder than you realise. I’ve nearly done my back in whilst putting together graphics in the aftermaths of raves when I am crouched in some random corner on a portable machine because you forget how long you are spending “working”…
you also recently mentioned giving up cannabis; which may have blotted out symptoms that were always there.
also check your bicycle saddle height and riding position is not uncomfortable as if you are riding to/from friends etc in between working on the computer this also hammers your arms/hands (the road surfaces iregulatites being transmitted through the stem and handlebars)
Yup I’ve got RSI in my right wrist from work.. I work in a call centre and spend all day using a mouse and a keyboard and then I come home and do the same… DOH!!!
My shoulders are often sore as well from this.. I’m a victim of my own competencies apparently as I touch type a pretty good rate per min and that also contributes to the RSI.
I found that the mouse matt with the gel wrist support and the same for the front of the keyboard helps keep my wrists at a decent angle and the RSI isn’t as bad anymore…
the layout things a pain. a friend who is disabled has a crazy multi-position, £700 chair, with an integal mouse mat inthe arm and vertical mouse (used one? theyre amazing) and that is joy to use, but he only afforded it on a grant. seems a bit silly as these things affect us all. but its good that he does get it.
as for breaks, i hear you, i try to go walk round the house, do some art, make food whatever but it easy to push yourself. the official recommendation is five minute every two hours, but that is clearly done by a bastard employer. i try and get up every half hour. doesnt always work out like thattho.
i really exasperated my back troubles once when i was round a mates house and was working on a cgi project with him for a week. i was working 24 hour stints, tanked up on pain killers. fucking stupid idea, messed me up for a while. never again.
this i think i very true, a lot of other psychological things are surfacing, and im beggining to ralise i wasnt just smoking to have fun, i was hiding from some shit. a common complaint. still, im looking forward to getting my dreams back- havent dreamt for a loooooooong time, and i remember them being well fun.
my bike is well adjusted, deffo, cheers for the advice tho.
i will have to go down gp for a more indepth perception, plus i think some physio will help – it sorted my back along with yoga. a friend of mine also swears by taichi.
stop wanking so much and get a job :surprised

Hahaha my mates tried to tell me that my RSI only started 3-4ths after i started seeing my man… and that it had bugger all to do with work.. especially as it was only my right wrist….
nah, your right, mate. i am just a big moaner. reality check is always useful :bitter: :laugh_at: :ty_ty:
oh fuck off
i have RSI from using computers too much
the solution is boringly simple in most cases
but i was just passing on the advice I recieved when I told my boss during my review that I had RSI and could I have some of the gel / support equipment
“stop wanking” was her response
😥
:obey:
check my smiley skills.
thats an old gag, old man, its like saying “missed a bit” to someone sweeping up or painting.

I bloke I used to work with when I was a photoshop boy had a over month off with R.S.I from the mouse!
i solved my rsi by changing the mouse to my left hand and using the mouse with my elbow resting on the desk/table i was working at; rsi only flares now when fixing a right handers computer and then its painkillers all round…:get_you:
just started to develop something like it after i play a game of cs but only in my little finger, :crazy_fre
If you can change the way you use the keys/ mouse/ gamepad in cs to stop this getting worse do; maybe programming your options to avoid whatever is giving your little finger that problem or stretching between maps while the next one loads to free off the tension from playing . RSI is evilly painful if it gets any worse…
:ar15::ar15:BTW CS rocks:ar15:
