  • Any of you girls do it?

I’ve invested in some new quads, havent skated in eons,

wanted to derby, but the more i look in to it, I’m a bit scared of all the potential injuries (cant be going off sick a lot from work etc) but found a neat roller disco in Vauxhall that looks good :laugh_at:

Our roller derby has looked like this for donkeys years. Kids used to break into it and get up to all sorts so now it has 24 hour guards

Used to go to the Ice Skating Disco in early teens but never tried roller skates, guess it’s similar though, was a good laugh at the time

    this is what I mean

actual roller derby, from the US

That does look like a lot of fun……….. doubt we have them in the UK, the Health & Safety Muppets would ban it in a heart beat

There’s loads in the uk, all over

Hence why I ask if any of the girls on here do it, the video is of London girls, its grown internationally in the last few years

Never done roller derby, but gotta love the roller discos. Me and a few mates went a couple of times recently (3 years ago) and it’s surprising how much skating definitely isn’t like the getting back on a bike analogy!!!

TBH it looks like something girls would have done in 1980s, I swear we are going back in time 😉

I will show that to the girls at the housing co-op at the weekend (I found a spare half used reel of telephone cable which will be perfect for the phone line for booking their healing room) its the sort of thing they will like (actually good timing so at least they have the healing room if/when they crash :laugh_at:)

This is what I’m worried about, I used to be really good and confident,
But last time I skated (21 and pissed) the next day I was in a & e with a huge black swollen wrist, that I was so pissed I’d not noticed the night before ….

Don’t remember doing it since! Really up for it though as used to have such fun, and am hopeful the skiing will have helped, but am seriously looking into investing in some padded ass shorts!!! :p

Totally gl, my skates are late 1970’s early 80’s repro’s!
Derby originates from late 70’s and the ‘get up’ is pretty 80’s glam rock cum disco

There was a film a few years ago I think called whippet that got it over here, think dru Barrymore was in it, but defo Juliet Lewis !! ………She is god 🙂

Whippet…good movie I like that ellen page.
Not sure about participating but it looks fun to watch !

Looks like fun. Do they do full contact?

I’m not a girl but I do have a sweet pair of quads. What? It’s good exercise!

No but sounds fun although I only like blades not the 4 wheel thingys. I used to go to roller discos when I was a kid (mainly to show off as I was quite good, certainly not for the music). I misser roller-blading actually got a lovely pair never used in the cupboard.

Have fun let us know how it goes ay.
