  • I am considering upgrading to a Samsung device on my next upgrade from my iPhone 6 Plus and it would be helpful to know if TouchWiz is any better of a UI. I keep hearing all this mess about how laggy it is and how it reboots the phone and has app crashes, etc. If you guys are using the S6/S6 Edge, would you mind commenting and telling me your experience with it? I’ve been shit shaming Samsung for years because TouchWiz used to be so terrible so I would like to try one of their smartphones but don’t want to buy a $900 phone if it’s just going to be screwy for the next year.

I am on TM’s network, by the way if that helps. Thanks.

At least one of the lads who work for me owns some kind of Samsung [the other one may have switched to a different device]; if I get a chance I will ask him which one it is and whether he has experienced those bugs.

Bear in mind though T-Mobile USA is an entirely different animal to T-Mobile in Europe (although their network has recently been sold to British Telecom) and there may be custom firmware only the USA uses.

It might even be the case that in your region that network conditions are poor (and/or the cops using Stingrays and other similar devices that would cause all smartphones to switch from LTE (3/4G) to GSM which if there are any firmware flaws in the bit controlling the RF section of the device added to dodgy apps that gather and send loads of data for advertising purposes is quite likely to upset it and cause these kinds of intermittent problems.

What kind of other apps (apart from the usual ones like telephone calls/texts and the camera) do you normally load on your phone?

I don’t play a lot of games, mostly bank account apps and social media (though sparingly). Just everyday apps, maybe 2 games. That’s about it. And thank you!

i spoke to the lad today; he has some older model but his wife owns a S6 and she is really happy with it. I forgot to ask what network she uses but in the UK custom firmware on phones supplied by carriers seems to be much less common nowadays. I’d check US reviews just in case there is some kind of odd legacy system used in the USA or your region (in the UK its either LTE (3/4G) or GSM 900/1800)

Yeah I’ve heard more good things about it than bad. Most people just complain about the non removable battery and lack of ability to add storage with a microSD card which is whatever to me. Only smartphones I’ve ever had had no removable battery and the lack of storage building doesn’t bother me at all. 32GB of ROM is plenty for me. I have a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus that I’m using now and I’ve barely scratched the surface of using the memory. It was either this or the 16GB version and the damn OS takes up 8GB so that’s the story behind me buying the “middle model”.
