Scotland is the drugs capital of Europe, according to a United Nations report that shows cocaine and amphetamine use is higher than in any other country.

Figures published by the UN show that 3.8% of Scots consume cocaine, compared with 3% in Spain, 2.3% in England and Wales and 2.2% in Italy.

Just over 2.2% of Scots use amphetamine, more than double the proportion in England and Wales. Scotland is also ranked second out of 47 European countries for heroin, cannabis and ecstasy use.

The alarming statistics have prompted calls by opposition politicians and drugs campaigners for urgent action. Senior police officers have admitted that drugs enforcement is not enough and that better intelligence and co-operation between countries is needed.

A report published last week in The Sunday Times claimed that police are seizing just 1% of the heroin consumed in Scotland every year.

“These latest figures are simply terrible and reflect very badly on our society,” said Bill Aitken, justice spokesman for the Scottish Conservatives. “The government’s current obsession with drink might be more properly directed to reviewing drugs policy with a much more determined approach based on abstinence. If we continue down the present road, heaven knows the number of addicted persons we will have in ten years.”

its a big misconception that the Dutch cane loads of drugs. the gedoogbeleid (tolerance) was intended a social policy to minimise harm and reduce overall drug use, does not equate to social acceptance of drugs.

in NL the message is still “drugs are for losers”. Even Armin Van Buuren and Paul Van Dyk distance themselves from the drugs culture. There are rumours Tiësto is a caner but he understandably wouldn’t admit to it. in recent times many dance music events and venues have been closed down on zero tolerance policies.

an increasing number of Dutch people see the reputation that Amsterdam has obtained as a national embarrasment and a culture what attracts crime and badly behaved foreign drug tourists, hence the rise in popularity of right wing politicians such as Geert Wilders and other conservatives. They aren’t even that pissed off about moderate Muslims, its the Moroccans gangs what are running some of the cannabis trade and whorehouses (and starting turf wars with other races, particularly East Europeans doing the same thing and also native biker gangs) they are fucked off with..

I always had Holland down as the big country where most of our cocaine amphetamines etc would be trafficked through. Not the scots lol.

Spain is massive and the coke is clearly much better. In the Netherlands people are looked down upon for smoking weed! In the UK you are deemed boring if you don’t drink…..
