  • I had an idea the other day. I should be putting on my first freeparty in a few weeks time but i dont like the whole partyline on the internet idea or the alternative of just keeping it word of mouth. So i was thinking what if i organized it on a web community like myspace? I could do a search and send out a flyer type thing to anyone with ‘raver’ or ‘trance’ or something in their profile, or i could get interested people to add me then get invited to a group, meaning any cops wanting details of my party are going to have to go to the bother of taking pictures of themselves and doing a proper profile.

    What you all reckon?

I’d be very wary of myspace.

The Yanks have gone apeshit because they’ve realised their youths are already using it for this sort of purpose as well as the usual underage liaisons (age of consent is 18 in some states and may be 21 in others!) so the FBI are all over that board.

They’ve busted quite a few young Americans for a variety of offences and
If the feds find evidence of crime in Britain they often notify Scotland Yard as part of a reciprocal agreement they have between London and Washington.

Its run by Rupert Murdoch so they are not going to cover up for you if you are using it for “illegal purposes!”

Even with word of mouth its easy to fill an event – one person has about 10-20 close friends and more acquaintances and you’re less likely to get idiots that way.

peoples personal (not their work!) e-mail accounts are relatively safe as well as the major providers have so much traffic that feds are only looking for blatant plans for terrorism/major crime, a party invite could be an innocent invite to a birthday party

When we did Free parties in Southern Ireland we had to be very careful about who knew about them as the police were clamping down big time and taking rigs left right and centre.

We set up a website where people could register to join the mailing list but in order to be accepted on the mailing list you had to be vouched for by 2 other existing members. We emailed the list of people’s email addresses waiting to be vouched for out to everyone already on the list every month or when it reached a certain number of people.

It was an effective way of only people who should know finding out about the parties, yeah some people talked to others about it but most people were sensible in knowing that them telling other people could jeopardise the party.

So if you have a crew of mates already then maybe try this way and it’ll build up slowly but surely.

are you still living in southern ireland if so do you know of any empty space we can use for setting up creative community projects and also some people up for halping set up and run them also need places in france and spain well all oveer the world really :get_you:
