removed as even if you must do this dodgy practice (which breaks the license of soundcloud, where an uploader can decide themselves whether or not to permit downloading) there are other ways to do it without having to divulge your personal email and there were other dodgy methods in the way they developers had signed up. I did check and gave them a fair chance but there seems to be no way to get the app without supplying an email which begs the question of what the data is being used for?
In any case not only is Soundcloud compressed so are many other cloud audio services, and the audio quality will not be as good.
Legal music now costs a fraction of what it once did. I am equally critical of the excesses of copyright feds but Pirates / “theftivists” have made their point now, its time for them to move on and find more deserving targets for their battles such as other worse excesses of capitalism, that is if they can cope with enemies what fight back harder as they have more resources and more to lose.
I’ve just spent the weekend with a wonderful group of people at our local housing co-operative. All of them and their circle of friends are fantastically talented with every sort of art and music you can think of (between then and ICR there is fast developing an “arts quarter” in what would otherwise be a run down part of Ipswich), and learned this weekend that they used to be a music promotion collective but the priorities have shifted so much towards basic survival (housing, food, work) so they have less time to do all their creative/art things.
High tech hipsters sitting alone in their bedrooms coding and thinking that they have made a cool app what steals others work really doesn’t help.
