nah, he is very much alive but has since left the UK and returned to South Africa (where he is originally from), which I think is a very wise decision on his part.

OTOH it is very common for young actors or anyone famous to be attacked on the street these days.
Good looking girls get stalked/harrased, blokes (particularly teenage/young adult actors) just get the shit beaten out of them if they become isolated from friends who would stick up for them.
Most celebs these days do not actually go out that often and when they do have “close protection” (i.e bodyguards, but not always deployed the obvious “minder” types).
