  • Supermarkets are evil and out to get you! Nuff said.

Supermarkets can’t be evil, have you tasted those Morrison’s extra tasty roast chickens from their hot deli? Nothing that tastes that good could be evil!

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely…………

What we really need is for the monopolies commission to limit the number of stores any business can operate per capita per city, say for example 1 superstore per 100K citizens within a cities boundaries, and maybe even a radius separating them by say 10 miles

They actually do a garlic one too, it’s awesome but not so good if you’re expecting “company”. lol

I do agree with you, I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle against these corps though.
Also kind of ruins the aestheticism of a city too.

Cities ruin the aetheticism of the land I say.

Yes BUT people need cities, in fact cities are more economical than villages, less space per person, less need to drive anywhere.

Sod that! If I have to travel 10 miles to get my Morrison’s extra tasty roast chicken (instead of 2 minutes away from my house) then by the time I got home my chicken would be cold. The first serving HAS to be hot and served with fresh tiger bread and some rocket and spinach salad!

Incidentally, has anyone else heard about the forthcoming tax increase on cooked chicken? This is the end of society as we know it and I for one will go down fighting rather than pay more for my delicious roast chickens! What is the loophole?

Some supermarkets drop prices below cost to out-fuck-over each over, means cheapness for me in return for my moneys! If you shop wisely bargains can be had plus the odd five finger discount is easiest at supermarkets.

Although, Tesco are a bit evil.

I agree too many in a small radius. We now have in the space of a few miles and smallish town a huge sainsburys, huge 24 hour tescos, another big sainsburys, small sainsburys, small tesco and some more… The answer is not to shop in these and support your local independents. As businesses they respond to demand (or collude with the illuminati to create it…!)

I shop in Lidl, love it – cheap, nice foreign food stuffs, random stuff, and sliced edam yum yum

the actual loophole was part of a spam attempt by Americans (which wouldn’t even work here in Europe, where there are actually stronger controls on supermarkets)

I actually worked for them for a few months, not in a store, I was temping office based in the so called marketing recharges dept when they were pushing out old staff with good contracts regarding pensions and flexi-time and using temps on short term renewable contracts and no employment rights.

Few facts you might not know

Tesco ( and I assume the other supermarket chains too ) actually charge their suppliers for product placement ( prime shelves ), for adverts ( any sign you see saying a brand is on some kind of offer the brand is paying to have displayed ), and for any 2 for one or other offers that increase bulk buying so Tesco get the same profit per item.

These recharges keep the non-branded or new brand products that cant afford to pay them either out of the store or on the lower shelves, and when you see a top brand product drop to the bottom shelf it’s because they are trying to renegotiate with Tesco and Tesco are flexing their muscles saying this is what we can do to your sales.

Personally I try to avoid supermarkets but it’s getting harder and harder to do, the so called ‘corner shops’ usually run by immigrants ( not being racist I have nothing against them and get on well with my local ‘corner shop’ owner ) survive because they have a much stronger work ethic, the whole family works and they do insane hours ( my local is open from 6am to 10pm !!!! with just the family working it ), even these shops wont last as the children of the owners take on so called ‘British Values’ and dont want to take over the business. The old local Butcher, green grocer etc only survive with low outgoings ( the ones that own the shop outright ), when they retire or sell up no one can replace them because the added costs of renting or buying a shop in prime location are to much for them to make a profit.

Another 10 years and their will be NO independent butchers or green grocers, and even the ‘corner shop’ will be greatly reduced in numbers, only the big three supermarkets will remain, they will be mostly owned and run by the same shareholders regardless of the name on the door and everyone will be forced to shop in them.
