  • It’s ridiculously easy, you’ll have no issue.

I got one of them disks (not the official govt one but one called “Focus Driving Test success” which is supposed to be the 2012 edition) – been practising the hazard perception bit more as well as revising obscure traffic laws.

TBH I find actual driving easier than these things, especially as the video quality on these is really rough – a large proportion of the one I have is mostly shot in Wales when it is pissing down with rain, (the rest seems to be in Bristol). I think next time I practise I will plug the laptop into the telly to get a better look at the screen… But I’m getting the hang of it, I used tactical’s tips but didn’t click in a obvious way what would seem like cheating and my score is going up…

had another good driving lesson today, in spite of really busy roads, a loose dog on the pavement and a cyclist coming up the wrong side of the road (next to one of the few wide and genuinely useful bike paths in Ipswich :hopeless:), half the road markings missing and every other road here is up for roadworks. Getting better at the roundabouts too, though I took a wrong exit on one and then had to go back round via a second one! Will be doing the faster roads soon, provided there aren’t onions spilled all over them again..

It was easy when I did it, but I think they recently revised it. They re-wrote all the questions and have not published them. Before, you could just do a few mock tests and you’d be prepared to take the real one. Now they have supposedly made it so it’s necessary to learn the highway code rather than just remember the question formats. I don’t know if they have actually achieved this though.

Hazard perception is easy GL. I wouldn’t stress about it, you’ll do absolutely fine.

last year when i passed it they had every question published… i just read the whole book over a week before the test and passed. the highway code actually took some proper learning… which i couldn’t be assed to do cos i was a k head at the time.

that hazard perception is fairly easy man.. u have spare clicks to get them wrong so just use them wisely and you’ll pass with ease. seriously man it’s piss!

i had zero knowledge of the tests and when i did my first practice i got 42 (a pass).. with no revision! then i did another one with different questions and failed with like 35 🙁 haha

Yeah I found it’s more to do with luck of the draw then anything when I did it as a lot is common sense. It’s still worth learning as much as you can though to avoid fucking up on any wild cards.

Well I found out that basically my signs sucked… 1 out of 9 correct 2 out of 9 correct etc often.. so i just made sure to go through the signs a bit more.

but really just reading every question and answer made it easy, especially as they have the same questions reworded about 4-5 times so it drills it into you.

for example NO STOPPING. if you never studied signs at all then that could look like no entry etc easily..

passed this today (was originally going to do it end last year but metal thieves ripped out the main BT cable to half of the Midlands and that took out the WAN to the DSA’s test booking computers, then it was festive season/weather)

got 48/50 on the questions and 64/75 on hazard video.

In the meantime have been continuing with lessons and also started private practice driving on L plates with one of my relatives supervising as my instructor was happy that I am ready to do so but I still found it more stressful than actually driving, was like being back at high school again. The questions haven’t changed all that much from the ones on the disks but they have been reworded.

I got given (along with the pass certificate) a “yoof magazine for young drivers” with road safety hints, driving tips and experiences from the cast of Hollyoaks and Skins (!) and a worryingly large section devoted to encouraging new drivers to have those black box tracker / monitors installed in cars in return for reduced insurance premiums (which is really going to bait up free party organisers as there is going to be at least one dumb kid what drives to a illegal party with one of these in the car.

The worst thing is they may well drive perfectly well and not get in trouble themselves but the data could be used as evidence against organisers…
