Cops don’t make the laws (even if some think they can) – politicians do. in most of the world countries politicians are elected by the people and even in “non democratic” countries the politicians operate with a certain amount of consenus from the people or they would be overthrown by similar revolutions to what put them in power in the first place.
The harsh reality is at present most people do not do illegal drugs and think that they should stay illegal, and recent events in the UK and Europe especially with cathinones have probably pushed things against legalisation, as has the economic depression.
Even the Green Party isn’t as vocal about legalisation as they once used to be (its still a policy of theirs) and my local candidate thinks the drugs culture is self destructive and would rather get up at 07:00 to ride his bicycle (and crashed on the icy roads, so understandably sorting these out is more of a priority for him).
The best we can hope for is limited decrim of straight stimulants on the back of World War III (similar to what happened during and after WW II) but that of course means a fuckload of people end up having to put up with strong government/authority/uniforms etc, all manner of restriction on our lives and even the risk of being killed. Remember that a lot of us are still of the right age to serve in the military, or other public services!
