  • its harsh what happened to this chap – but I’ve been partying just as long (if not longer) -so have a lot of other people I know and they haven’t had such bad experiences

its all about knowing when to calm down and take a break…

A FORMER raver has issued a stark warning to youngsters in Ipswich about the dangers of party drugs after speaking publicly of the depression and paranoia that led to him attempting to take his life on SIX separate occasions.

    http://www.eveningstar.co.uk/content/eveningstar/news/story.aspx?brand=ESTOnline&category=News&tBrand=ESTOnline&tCategory=News&itemid=IPED16%20Mar%202007%2017%3A46%3A23%3A607

All drugs prescription or otherwise effect different people in different ways.. i’ve had mates that have ended up in psychiatric hospitals before due to them over using drugs and hearing voices in their heads as well..

Like you said GL you’ve been on the scene for a long time and haven’t had that kind of problem and neither have I.. i truly believe that you either have an addictive personality or not.

Most of us know when to stop and take a break like you said.. but this guy was probably prone to mental illness anyway and this is more than likely what lead him to take drugs in the first place then making the problem worse…

Funny you should post this today as we were having this conversation last nite at my place when we came back from my gig about how different people are effected.

I don’t like the way the article turns what should be an anti-drugs message into an anti-rave one.

I believe that drugs heighten your emotions whether they’re good or bad, this guy was always going to have paranoia and lows no matter if he took drugs or not, its all about knowing when to have a weekend off, or only spending 10quid at the weekend rather than 70.

he probably does have a history of mental illness or at least low self-esteem – and I think he’s done the right thing by getting treatment but the wrong thing by talking to the papers (wonder how much Archant paid him?)

I can see what he was trying to do by warning people as there is a big problem with younger people getting to even worse states as drugs are way cheaper now, and it does seem that he caned loads from age 17-22 which is the most turbulent time in a young man’s life (it was for me) so the emotional rollercoaster can be really harsh…

But the way the mainstream media treat this isn’t helping anybody – most people don’t “go mad” instantly like how the papers claim – so kids will still do drugs, not get any immediate ill effects and still binge on them…

Plus, stopping raves won’t (and didn’t) miraculously stop drug use. Suffolk and Essex are some of the hardest places to do raves (even legal events) and both counties are awash with drug addiction….

Agreed, Lots of people go out enjoy the tunes and the party and dont do loads of drugs. DJs and producers certainly dont take drugs everytime they spin or write a tune, else there would be no music at all.

In the end it was his choice, ive been going to parties for 6 years and i just turn down stuff im not happy to do….blaming :crazy:raves for what he did just shows he’s unable to take responsibility for his actions, which is prob why he ended up taking anything that was shoved under his nose in the first place.

My father committed suicide at 33 also his brother killed himself and the other members of his family suffered some form OF NUTTYNESS!and they didnt take drugs, my father suffered from depression and my brother has from 22yrs old suffered from paranoid schiztsophrenia and delusions and depression he only ever had the odd smoke, I have kicked the arse out of just about everything and Im not proud of it but its just the way I am an irresponsible binger I do sit there quite a lot thinking I wish Id never hit it so hard but whats done is done now And yes the drugs (I think)have caused me some mental damage and depression but compared to my brother and father who didnt take anything I have not suffered anything as severe in the mental heath department as them, by rites I should have, and probly if I hadnt taken anything I would of probly been completly sane:crazy_fre:crazy_fre:crazy_frethoe thats is debatable :crazy_frethe beauty of my family is that mental problems run on my fathers side(load of East London nutters)and addictions run on my Mothers side(Granfather whilst in the British army in India gets sent home because of Opium addiction (SMACK HEAD)in 1928 raaaraaaraaaway to go Grandad! his son my uncle dead at 39 on the smack and my mother with what was a very very bad drink problem also her other bothers a piss artist,I think that drugs can and do make an existing mental problem worse but if you look at my family its the people who led the cleanest lives that seem to of had the worst mental health problems unless as I think now that The bingeing and excess drink and drug taking is in it self a mental illness.

Its the being able to blame anyone or anything else rather than stand up and say ‘I should have been more responsible’ about what he took which is so appealling to these people.

This is the same sort of person who will complain if he goes into a bar, gets drunk and then when he tries to drive home gets reported to the police and lifted. He will likely say ‘why did they sell me the alcohol if they were going to ring the police about me driving?’ like its someone else’s job to control his drinkiing and he was not the one lifting the glass to his mouth and swallowing :get_you: :you_crazy:you_crazy

Dont blame his mental health problems on the drugs or the raves – they were there all along in his inability to be responsible for his own actions and the resulting low self esteem that brings with it.

there are a lot of people around with various levels of mental illness, some of it may be hereditary, for others it may be brought on by the pressures of life or simply as they feel life in Britain is otherwise mundane and boring without drugs, as mediocrity in all walks of life seems to be Britains Unique Selling Point (for those of you old enough to remember John Major, thats a good example)…

many used recreational drugs as a form of self-medication but without proper guidance from peers or websites like this (which didn’t exist “back in the day”) didn’t know when to stop, or were too stubborn to do so.

    Quote:
“My first E (ecstasy tablet) made me feel I was loved.”

Obviously it is meant to say “made me feel like I was loved.” Just that quote from that guy instantly tells me that he was quite a low/depressive person before he tried ecstacy. Of course its not gonna do you good if your normal mood is shit before you take drugs… its going to permanently make it worse because drugged up happiness isn’t real!!!!!!!!!
I don’t understand why people can’t deal with their issues… everyone goes through shit and trust me I’ve been through some hells. GET OVER IT! sorry I’m being quiet harsh and unforgiving today haha.

    Also…

“Everyone would hug you and it felt like you had found the answer to life.”

I mean really….. come on…… I love xtc I drop pretty much every weekend (well have been since just after new year, BREAK TIME NOW) and yeah okay it feels beautiful and you feel sooo connected to your friends but that is just ridiculous…. (also I have had pink kangaroos which were fucking ace and apparantly as good as old school pills so I do know what its like to be that mashed)
