  • Felixstowe has always been multicultural by necessity, it is a coastal town! So is Ipswich. It does however make sense to have these in late spring/early summer, as weather by the North Sea is such that everyone from Asia and other “hot” countries goes into hibernation until then as its too bloody cold to go out! (if you cycle along Norwich Road Ipswich the year round you can see this…)

The Anglo Chinese Cultural Exchange are good people. They gave ICR-FM a load of furniture last week, though I had to explain to the station manager (who is about 1.8m tall) that of course the office chairs they donated would not be correct size for him as they are made for shorter folk (I am 1.65m tall and had to set the chair to the “tall” position).

Office chairs in EU are made to different sizes and for different weights of people, it is actually the law employers must provide correct size for the users. For those who weigh in at above 100 kg a special stronger lift cylinder is required. When I worked in public service, such a chair was known by the facilities department as a type “foxtrot bravo” :laugh_at:)

People in Felixstowe celebrated the resort’s cultural diversity with three packed hours of entertainment, food and fun.

It was the first time the culture fair had been held outdoors and in the town centre and the warm spring sunshine brought out plenty of people to enjoy the event.

Organisers took over The Canopy and The Triangle in Hamilton Road with around 25 stalls plus live performances of dance and music, including majorettes and Bollywood.

The Anglo Chinese Cultural Exchange also gave a tai chi demonstration

There were also cultural cuisine demonstrations and food tasting with chefs from a variety of countries taking part, and a range of children’s activities.

Organisers were delighted with the support for the event, which was returning this spring after missing a year, and said the aim would be to involve even more groups next time.
