Although I haven’t got any problem whatsover with anybody indulging in recreational use which does not affect their work, this is a bit much – he was clearly on duty at the time so others lives are at stake here, and taxpayers money paid for those drugs..
Drug taking doctor is suspended
An anaesthetist who collapsed on duty after injecting himself with drugs he stole from work has been found guilty of serious professional misconduct.
David Moorman, 31, of Fareham, Hants, said stress caused him to steal the painkiller Fentanyl from Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, in October 2003.
After collapsing in theatre, he was admitted to the hospital, where days later he stole more of the same drug.
A General Medical Council panel suspended him for 12 months on Tuesday.
It ruled that Dr Moorman, a specialist registrar in anaesthetics, must face a review after the suspension.
The panel said the incident was isolated “but a serious breach of professional standards.”
Dr Moorman, who admits having taken cocaine in the past, apologised to the panel, saying his behaviour was “dishonest, inappropriate and put patients at risk.”
