Although I no longer use cannabis much nowadays (lost the desire for it as I grew older) – I’m still all for decriminalisation and sensible use/production..

Sadly this sort of stuff seems to be playing straight into the cops hands, particularly reports on neglected children and pets – and why can’t these people just pay for the ‘leccy, as the plant sales themselves are surely a very high profit margin?

a sad indictment on how “unregulated enterprises” often seem to bring out the worst in people…

Cannabis factories are found by police

    Jul 13 2005
    By Mandy Little, The Mercury

EARLY morning raids busted cannabis factories in a bid to crack down on the drugs trade and linked criminal activity.

Greenwich police, staff from London Fire Brigade, Greenwich council and electricity companies took part in Operation Damson last Wednesday.

They targeted 23 properties and discovered factories in 10 of them.

The factories were netting thousands of pounds for their operators. More than 1,982 plants were seized.

Police arrested 11 people on charges in connection with the cultivation of cannabis and two on suspicion of immigration offences.

Three children aged 10, four and one were found unattended and taken into police protection.

A sick dog was handed over to the RSPCA.

Police also found DVDs which suggested counterfeit operations were also taking place.

In all premises there was evidence of illegal use of electricity.

The fire brigade was on hand because hundreds of fires break out in factories in London every year due to the haphazard rewiring and dangerous materials often stored.

Borough commander Peter Lowton said the operation looked set to seriously disrupt the supply of drugs across South London.

He added: “We are sending a strong message to the operators that police will act to close them down wherever information from the community raises suspicions.”

He added operators are often involved in other crimes including people trafficking and prostitution.

He warned that the high profits being made in Greenwich could attract criminals from other areas.

He said that 637 cannabis plants worth £190,000 were discovered in one small semi-detached house in Plumstead.

“When you consider that most factories can get three harvests a year, it’s clear this is a lucrative occupation,” he added.

He urged people to give them information about suspected cannabis growing.

    Contact **************

Three Harvests a year? Must be beginners I suppose 😉

i am with you on this

IMO :idea:if it was legalised and taxed the criminal element would not be there as it would be legitmate and the taxes could be put to good use; also the reduction in anti drugs police budget could also be redeployed more usefully elsewhere

why there were neglected kids and pets there is beyond me; i think its awful that people take on those kinds of responsibilities and then ignore them – why bother in the first place?:you_crazy:you_crazy

given the location and the fact that HM Immigration were involved; I suspect that these growers were the SE Asian nationals who have virtually taken over this trade in many parts of the UK, even muscling out the “yardies” and other gangs who used to sell cannabis (or just winning by greater business efficiency!) They use “bonsai” techniques to get the highest yield of plant product from the lowest space.

prohibition is a big cause of this; they are extremely unlikely to be extradited as their offences carry the death penalty in their home countries; so the worst case for them is a few years in Belmarsh which although harsh is a lot less so than an Asian prison!

I expect the children are their own; and the dog was intended as a guard animal and/or a pet for the kids..

This is basically a “survival crime” for these people – which occurs as well because racism/anti immigrant feeling makes it difficult for them to obtain legitimate employment.

Hmmmm. All from a government who freely give out speed to five year olds… :you_crazy

True. Lets face it if alcohol and tobacco was made illegal tomorrow then the whole nation would turn into “criminal junkies” running around looking for there next hit! Goverment is just pure wrong
