Full alert has been issued to UK Health Protection Agency (but has not yet got to the website; I suspect their editors do not work out of hours). All current known cases are amongst straight people who have had sexual partners across the whole of England. I am not sure why Leeds would be the centre of this as opposed to anywhere other similar large city/metropolitan area in England….
Highly drug-resistant gonorrhoea is spreading in the north of England with an outbreak centred in Leeds, sexual health doctors have told the BBC.
One of the main treatments has become useless against the new strain of the sexually transmitted infection.
Twelve cases have been confirmed in Leeds and a further four have been reported in Macclesfield, Oldham and Scunthorpe.
