from the Northerner…..
I wonder if you can buy the owls from UU (or their suppliers?) I may have to install a large WLAN antenna in a rural area, and do not want birds perching upon it and knocking it out of alignment…
Top marks for art to whoever designed the mystery bird that hoaxed the gullible folk of Bamford for much of January.
One woman in Linnell Avenue spent five hours scanning the rare Eagle Owl as it sat motionless on an electricity pylon, undeterred by all the volts crackling past on their way to heat and light Lancashire.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds was alerted, and Bamford almost had one of those sudden deluges of twitchers.
But just in time, the Rochdale Observer reports, someone realised the owl was so inert and apparently contented because it was made of plastic to a design drawn up by United Utilities.
“People in the area complained about pigeons, so we put it up there to stop them, and it has been working,” a spokeswoman for the company said, adding the usual Blue Peter-style warning about trying something similar at home.
“While our engineers can do this quite safely, we wouldn’t advise people to do this themselves.”
