  • I did not do this one; some other dude used a metal chain link instead of the correct service fuse. If you must do this (and it is dangerous unless you know exactly what you are dealing with, use 2 parallel pieces of 30 A fusewire ( 2 x 30 = 60A ; usually plenty enough for most residental squats), although by 2002 qwwe had a hoard of proper SSE 100A service fuses

Of course the chain link expanded and contracted with the varying load and evntually glowed red hot; it was only due to me and this German refugee noticing the distinct odour of burning electric connections travelling up the conduits we suspected something was wrong and went to the meter cupboard; this fuse link was by then well alight.

it is amlmost a miracle the whole squat did not go up on fire; ironically all that did burn up was the picture of the stick man getting knocked flat by a charge of electric. WE managed to swap the incomer to L2 with a proper fuse as the bulding only used 1 out of 3 phases which was a bit safer 🙂

GL = Obi Wan Kenobi of the rave scene

TBH more like Aladdin (the British “non PC” version with the “comedy Chinaman” character you get in pantomimes here; not sure if you have those in America); last week I was actually going round rooms with a lux meter saying “new lamps for old” (many of the lamps in the seniors home are insufficient; both for the nurses and the patients).

BTW with a 115V circuit and double the current + the possibility of aluminium cable the whole lot would most likely have gone up big time..
