I can see it happening. The Argies aren’t happy at all that oil has been found right on their doorstep.

Gordon Brown told em as well there’s no chance at all of them reclaiming the Islands. I wonder though, if it kicks off again will our govt have the balls to go and take em back?

we had the balls to go into Iraq despite millions of people disagreeing, no actual WMD’s being there and the risk of wrecking 25 years of harmony and bringing terrorism straight back home (which of course actually happened) so I don’t see why not.

I’ve encountered a few people serving in HM forces as has my sister and to be fair they aren’t daft racist rednecks at all, they are young folk just like us many of whom are gary boys and just want to fight to get cheaper oil for us. They don’t even hate the enemy all that much, its just the way things currently are if we all want to live a lifestyle dependent on oil..

But with the Iraq situation we were riding on the back of the US, If it was us on our own i don’t think we would of gone in.

Would we be strong enough to stand up on our own and take the fight to the Argies should they invade the Falklands again?

I expect so if there is oil involved (last time it was sheep)

    Haha yeah true mate. :laugh_at:

Just had a thought as well. Should the Argies invade and as you say oil is involved i bet the Yanks would jump at the chance to help out. Providing we allow them the chance to help rebuild the infrastructure of the Islands that is! 😉

Just curious but where has your rage for Thatcher come from?

the destruction of industries with no alternative provided creating 3 million unemployed, and decades of rapid decline for various cities

section 28 – against the promotion (in other words teaching that its even acceptable) of homosexuality. direct quote, it disallowed teachers to “promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship”. thatcher justified this by saying that children “are being taught that it is OK to be gay.”

the ideology that economic background was irrelevant, and that someone from a poor, deprived area should have the same ability to be succesful as a private schooled rich kid, completely lack of understanding of odds stacked against sections of society

the poll tax – tax rich and poor the same regardless

    privatisation of essential british industries

commitment to an unregulated free market which added to inequality

during her reign the gap between the poorest and richest increased by 60%

opposed the race relations act, which made discrimination based on race illegal

“there is no such thing as society” – fuck everybody else, make your own money, after all, if they are poor they deserve it

she labelled nelson mandela a terrorist

sinking of the belgrano, completely unnecesary and murderous

created anti-union laws which crippled the powers of the union to stand up for worker’s rights against the free market bosses

The poorest 10% suffered a decrease in wages of 17% over 10 years, whilst the wages of the richest 10% skyrocketed.

Child benefit was cut by 21% in real terms.

Child poverty tripled. By 1997 we had the highest child poverty rate in Europe, and one of the highest in the developed world. Thacher then Major. Tories for you.

Income tax on the wealthiest was cut by 40%. Many more tax loopholes were opened and there were huge cuts on corporation tax, funded by cuts in spending on public services.

the highest suicide rate in britain in young males in decades was during thatcher’s reign. she destroyed peoples livelihoods then offered no support and let communities rot.

    in conclusion:

“She valued the price of everything and the value of nothing.” (in reference to Margaret Thatcher)-Tony Benn.

some i’ve just copied and pasted, some is my own ranting. basically the ideology, everything she stood for, i despise. it’s not community, it’s not equality, it’s not fairness. it’s selfishness and we’re all living in thatcher’s britain now.

i’ll fucking celebrate the day she dies, fuck the morality of that – she fucked off the morality herself.

I see your your point or points lol. I still reckon her best decision was to retake the Falklands but yeah she was a fucking crack whore tbh. 😉

Falklands was just a “lucky opportunity” for thatcho. Had it not happened she may well have lost the election.

incidentally over the last few weeks both the Government and even private business leaders have basically said “oh fuck, we’ve rinsed all the oil, sold off the electric companies to the free market, so there hasn’t been any real investment in alternative sources, and without govt intervening we might soon be having blackouts. At work I have to put surge protectors and UPSs in every site as the power is getting more and more sketchy, worse than the days of Eastern Electricity Board..

Even if oil is found in the Falklands tomorrow it won’t be cheap nor cost effective to bring to the UK for electric generation,..

and yes thatcho destroyed a lot of Britain’s society for short term gain. as it didn’t all happen immediately I saw things decline and when I speak to old people now nearly all of them what can actually string two words together regret electing her, and the ones what don’t are already in the can with senile dementia (which is where she is headed if she’s not far gone already, she was well on the way to that in 1990!)

The argentines did some terrible things to their own troops in the name of trying to get the falklands for themselves. They also jammed all foreign radio and tv as far as they could manage it which meant that surrounding countries lost their services to prevent the british point of view being heard. Its not an edifying chapter in the country’s history

Got what they deserved then eh.
