Here is the official explanation of last years waveform:
“Hi all,
Its four days to Waveform Festival 2008 now and as an organization, The Sunrise Celebration Team just wanted to take this opportunity to reaffirm that the event is no longer in any way connected with the Sunrise Celebration festivals or Festivalife, the production company behind it. Waveform Festival is produced by an entirely different production company with absolutely no overlap in the organising teams, directorship or company management.
Though Waveform Project 2007 was a sister-event to Sunrise, born out of the Waveform Dance Tent at that years festival, management changes took place over last winter that mean Waveform no longer has any official or unofficial relationship with our own project. The festival was taken over by several members of its production team and a group of unidentified private investors. ‘Greener Productions’, as the producers behind the event are known as, leased the rights to stage the event from Waveform Project Ltd (A sister-company itself to Family Gathering Ltd – the old producers of Sunrise), thereby taking responsibility for all finances, sales and anything else associated with the 2008 event.
Whilst we were happy to stage a Waveform Area and Dance Tent at Sunrise this year, as a benefit both to they and ourselves and because it was an original creation of the producers of our event, this in no way associates the two events officially or legally.
We wish Waveform Festival 2008 all the best and hope it is a truly successful (and dry) year for them.
Yours,
The Sunrise Team”
???what?you lost me blud!
nah,mate-gotta busy calender which doesn’t have waveform on it.will be playing with krust & nu-tone @ favela plymouth on 26 sept if anyone wants to come (quick plug ha,ha…) raaa
Oooo dramas!
I personally vouch for Katalyst crew.
Last year they provided the dance stage & rig at a youth festival I organised. They did it for no money as it was a community event (genuinely sustainable, rather than commercial) and throughout the planning and the event they were always positive, helpful, easy going, knowledgeable, skilled and fun crew who put up with all the chaos we caused and dodgy bits of equipment we supplied for them to work with.
It’s a real shame that other people would take advantage of their good natures and rip them off

So my mates are off here for my bday and I might not even be going 😥

Sat-Nav I think… my bday is not till Sat, but I have just spoken to my old man and pointed out this disaster and he’s lent me the money till payday raaa
bless…and you’ll be able to get there without getting lost!
Shouldn’t do its within half hour of my house raaa
I suppose its all down to perspective really. I know that we all did our best to make it work, though to be honest some of us thought it should never have happened at all, as admittedly it was always likely to come down to gate sales, of which there were only a few. If I ever get involved in another festival, it won’t be on those terms, where there is even a chance that the people at the bottom don’t get paid (or in our case, a the top either!)
On the other hand, I don’t think you can really say that relying on ticket sales to pay for services at a festival is insolvency, because in that case EVERY festival except those sponsored by big corporate agencies is Insolvent before it begins. Surely better to create a world where the dreamers have a chance of making something beautiful happen.
Sadly it seems, not all dreams end happily, and there are some burnt out creditors from Waveform who don’t really deserve it. On the other hand, it created a lot of happiness for a lot of people and maybe that can be balanced against the financial losses.
So yeah, the fences were rubbish so there were a lot of fence jumpers. It was a hard site to defend anyway and there were too few resources to pay for a heavy security presence. Doesn’t really excuse people jumping the fence at every opportunity. A baby is defenceless, doesn’t mean you steal its candy.
I apologise for my irate tone before. Its just the majority of what was said was bollocks, and I didn’t really see Darren denying that in his response. It makes a group of actually quite nice organisers seem like lying, cheating c*nts, when really we weren’t. As if we would threaten people with the police??!
And I stand by what I said, the mistakes of the past shouldn’t be taken out on the organisers of the present, why do they deserve it? They’re are just trying to do a good thing and let people have a good time in a fairly ecological way. We should all support this, not bring it down. Unless of course you want the next Waveform to be run by Mcdonalds so that they can afford massive steel fences and ex-SAS security heavies and make all our lives miserable. What a great vision.
p.s. ID Spiral, Dreadzone and Alabama 3 were never at Waveform…

no not really. it comes down to how you manage a project. if it becomes clear that the finances are in ruins you make everyone aware of that and either pull the plug or go ahead with everyone informed of the risk they are taking.
Quote:On the other hand, I don’t think you can really say that relying on ticket sales to pay for services at a festival is insolvency, because in that case EVERY festival except those sponsored by big corporate agencies is Insolvent before it begins.most small festis are organised with the organisers putting in their own wedge made from promoting events plus some sponsorship. this is called underwriting and is a normal risk taken on any business venture. most businesses make a loss in the first year and account for this. your claim that this could only have worked with money from some evil corporation is bizarre and demonstrates that you don’t know what you are talking about.

A baby is defenceless, doesn’t mean you steal its candy.i had a ticket and queued up for about 4 hours although there were only about 25 people in front of me. the box office staff were incompetent and unfriendly. if i had been trying to buy i ticket i would have given up a long time before and just jumped in. the security seemed to be the cops :yakk:

Quote:And I stand by what I said, the mistakes of the past shouldn’t be taken out on the organisers of the present, why do they deserve it?they are profiting from the name of something that was built out of people getting ripped off. why shouldn’t they answer to that?
Quote:They’re are just trying to do a good thing and let people have a good time in a fairly ecological way.that just set me off. can you tell me one ecologically sound thing about waveform 2007? no public transport link ups, stalls selling hippy gear imported from china, lalala. nothing sustainable about it AFAIK

What a great vision.you are obviously ignorant of the many festivals that maintain the spirit of travelling, self-sustaining and trust that happen all over place. if you don’t know what i mean, go to ARSEfest this weekend and see for yourself.
