  • So I haven’t slept in 3 days straight because i’ve had so much work, and so much caffeine. What would happen to my body physically and emotionally if I stayed awake for another week? I think I have insomnia but I do get pretty tired during the day, I just can’t bring myself to go to sleep. Would it be harmful, like would I start to hallucinate or something?

I was up for 5 days once. It was a lot of fun while it lasted but there’s always a price to pay.

I seee, so how did you do it? What did you take to make you stay up that long

Speed, hash and acid I seem to remember. It was 20 years ago now.

Sleep deprivation is horrible. You will become emotional, you will have waking dreams and it will become hard to tell reality from fantasy. It will become increasing harder to concentrate and your muscles will start to become less efficient so your limbs will seem heavy. You will lose your appetite. You will get headaches. Your immune system will gradually start to shut down and you will feel shit.

Sleep deprivation has been used as a form of torture and is very effective as such.

WATCH FIGHT CLUB! That should contain all the information you need.

On a serious note though I do actually have insomnia and im frequently awake for 2-3days at a time without any stimulant (including caffeine) to keep me going. The first few days are usually ok but come day 3 or 4 without sleep and as mentioned reality and fantasy start to merge and you can experience hallucinations or lucid day dreams, which arent as fun as they sound. You also find basic cognitive and motor skills become poorly controlled. My longest period of insomnia lasted a full 9days and nights only sleeping on night 10. By that point I was barely able to recognise my own reflection.

    This ^

Hallucinations, confusion, memory loss, loss of equilibrium and sudden muscle failure ( arm or leg just going limp for a couple of seconds causing you to fall or drop stuff ) are common side effects I have personally had after 48 hour sessions, I’ve never pushed passed the 48 hour point but I hear it gets much much worse if you do.
