Never really thought about this before, but I understand the issue and it’s something I think I need to address.

What will happen to all my online things when I die?

Here’s What Facebook Does with Your Profile When You Die

I got a message on facebook the other day, it was about adding a friends friend. I took a look at her fb profile just to find out she have been dead for 2 years.

Facebook profiles don’t get deleted when you die unless you give somebody else permission to do so.

I’ve read that when people die their next of kin or whatever can get in touch with facebook with proper paperwork etc. and after trying it’s very best to ease their grief by doing fuck all about it forever, graciously then allows for a memorial page to appear in place. Am just about to heck tyhose articles now but I’m guessing the data stays in facebooks perversely detailed stash.

They usually get their data interests after you no longer use their service.

      Sad but true.

I would think it would be the same as when you deactivate your account in other words, it would just not show up in search results, that being said if someone were to deactivate your account after you passed. But nothing ever really gets deleted on the internet. It’s always stored somewhere in the cyber world. So if you put up pics of you drunk at a party and have a job interview the next week and delete the pics, they can still be found somewhere. Maybe not on your account but definitely stored in cyber space somewhere.

I know some dead people who still have facebooks.

consider that many popstars are worth way more dead than alive (Amy Winehouse, Elvis etc) due to the back catalogue.

Though I’d be extremely surprised if anything happened to “my” FB account after I left this earth as I do not have one – I just hope they don’t end up suspending some other unfortunate Chinese lad’s account thinking he has died…
