Cocaine is an alkaloid derived from the coca plant (alkaloid from plant is now given suffix -ine, morph-ine (originialy called morphium….)coca-ine and so on…..). Almost always sold as the hydrochloride salt, no doubt a fumerate, acetate and so on could be made depending on which acid is used, hydrochloric acid gives hydrochloride, acetic acid gives acetate, fumeric acid gives fumerate etc. Coca is indigenous to south America and almost all, if not all, production takes place there. Of course it can be reduced to the freebase which really does nothing but allow an extra route of administration and vapourizing any compound will always be much more intense than snorting or orally taking a compound.
