  • TBH I think this is one of the main reasons why the UK as a whole isn’t willing to even consider experiments like decrimininalisation.

Enough people chance it with alcohol and vehicles as it is, an individualist car culture in the UK is way stronger than many other nations (even those with a history of making decent cars and winning races) and we have this odd double standard that motoring offences are less serious than other kinds of crime.

In other European nations they often have and enforce a 100% zero tolerance policy on having any kind of substance in your blood, legal or otherwise, their cops have the equipment to enforce this (including being able to force a vehicle to stop with armed units as a routine procedure rather than a specialist one) and anyone caught DUI loses their driving license instantly. Its also even harder to get one in many EU countries than the UK, (for instance driving on L plates without a trained instructor isn’t legal in NL) and the driver of the larger vehicle is automatically liable for any crash against a pedestrian or cyclist etc.

Also where there is nightlife involving booze and drugs, the Europeans seem more willing to pay taxes towards public transport for the revellers and are much more judgemental towards motorists of any age who take chances with others’ lives.

i drive high a few times a week, but late at night and keep to speed limits, never ever drunk driven though, bollocks to that!

Dont have a driving license so have never driving pissed and dont plan too. I bike after drinking sometimes but thats always at night so i can see the cars coming. Did 7 miles after 10+ pints once and only fell off twice 😀

    stupid question…

I don’t drive and doubt I ever will. Cars are stupid things, too expensive, too big, too boring.

    I love my busses…

    Bus wanker

The ONLY time I was in charge of a motor vehicle on alcohol was a provo motorbike license. Drove out of a pub car park with 2 pints inside me and was flagged down within 50 yards.

Refused to take off my helmet so they couldn’t breathalyse me. But that wasn’t the point.

I learned the lesson. Being in charge of a motor vehicle is a responsibility and if you aren’t up to it, you endanger others lives as well as your own.

I quit trying to pass any kind of vehicular driving test a few months later. I’m a fucking maniac (certainly later teens/early 20s) so rather than take it out on other people, I hung up my helmet and passed the bike on.

Now I’m a LEETLE bit steadier I might try again. But certainly never under the influence. Fuck, I’m only just getting back on a pushbike.

Timid? Shy? Me? Well, maybe just considerate or even over considerate.

I didn’t start driving till “quite late” for this exact reason, I just didn’t trust my self driving a car with the amount I used to drink.

I nearly got driven into the center of a roundabout by a sober person just “being silly” and driving to fast, If they had of been drunk I’d probably be brown bread right now as they would of been driving “that little bit faster and carelessly”.

    I just don’t want a car cause they’re a waste of money.

^ depends what you do with em, if you’re driving to a job that you otherwise couldn’t get to then actually you’re earning money 🙂

Earning money to spend on petrol, tax, mot ect. It’s a bottomless money pit I think.

a lot of people need a car to go to work and transport work stuff. also they’re good tools for shotting crack, bare pennies bruv…. or going somewhere special and not relying on shitty public transport which doesn’t even go everywhere.

serious though a car opens doors, if those doors aren’t worth the money you think you’d pay then don’t buy them!

Well obviously people need them, that goes with out saying if you work in Leeds and live in Sheffield. My point is I’m unwilling to spend Fuck knows how much on a car, the get raped on the insurance, fished by the road tax and have to pay tax on it all. I refuse to pay tax. I don’t see why I should pay for politicians. In future I’m not going to pay tax.
