  • For me it was at school in 1998, we were lucky enough to have 3 brand new computer labs at school. It was the first time I had propperly uses a modern windows operating system Windows NT. My home PC still had windows 3.11 at that point cos we had never botherd to upgrade it as I didn’t use ot to play games anymore, just use it for word processing really. I remember looking at ebsites like the hamster dance and pikachumustdie.com (was a little flash game can now be found here Pikachu Must Die | Owen’s World. The schools default search page was altavista and shortly after that it was lycos. Lycos was good for one reason, you coul send SMS text messages for free from it.

Blimey, this thread shakes up the fragile memory bank a bit – nice post Log. I was 14 I think, a bit of a late starter in 1997. My mates dragged me to an internet cafe which charged £4 an hour to use their internet. Cafe’s were a new thing at the time, and could charge such an extortionate rate. Me hardly ever using a computer before was amazed at being able to text chat, albeit very slowly, to someone living in another country. When I quickly realised I could tell them to ‘Fuck off’ without any repercussions, I was hooked!

Yeah I remember using christain chat and going by the name of PATAMAN, and used to “flood” the chatroom with thinds like,
    P
    A
    S
    T
    A
    M
    A
    N

Those were the days. Oh I also remember when I had a sega dreamcast and that had internet access for anyone with a phone line at 1p per minute. So I used to stay up all night round my friends houses looing at porn sites, as you do when your a kid. and using the dreamarena charoom to have fun.

im a goldfish so i have no idea. i guess it wasn’t that memorable. i remember when i first found free internet porn and you had to wait an age for a short clip and was well clunky and then they were like ‘you’ve watched too many clips, now you need to pay up to watch more’ even if the clips were broken

    1999 i’d guess.

was a young un at home using napster to download computer game music as i wasn’t really into any bands at the age of 9…

also i was using yahoo games playing chess, towers and some other games. i was on yahoo so long ago that i was and still have a 3 letter password to my account!!

then came freesurf where it disconnected you every 2 hours and you had to dial up again..

    .

LOL You should really change that mate, I had a six letter password that was just a normal word up until recently. I started getting emails from friends telling me that spam was being delivered to them via my accounts so i’m guessing it got cracked. Now I have a complex pasword with combos of letters and numbers.

I bet your pasword is sex.

I would tell you my password right now and not care. It’s just an account that i log into to occasionally play chess, if it got hacked i’d just be sad to lose my 3 letter password 🙂

Indeed, I would be sad if I lost my old youtube account where I can upload really long videos. I have heard that you can’t upload over a certain amount of time now.

Actually reading more into it, its all about how good a user you are with youtube ie; copywright strikes, weather your a producer and what not. Thats a shame cos I was gonna upload my 3 hour wankathon tonight.

You can upload really long videos as long as the file isn’t too big. I’ve seen 2 hours hardtek mixes as of recent and they stated that they just lowered the audio quality til it was enough for youtube.

I think you can get premium youtube accounts as well where you can upload more or just become a big youtube with a lot of subs they seem to be able to upload 2 hour videos.

At first I thought it was 2000 when I was shown how to set up a hotmail account by my then boss, I didnt have a clue what was going on!!

But thinking about it I remember my ex having a pllaystation in 1999 and I am wondering if we accessed the internet with that, however I may be confused…..

Oh I did used to download and listen to the prodigy.. liked them since about age 6..!

Ps2 had online gaming access but it wasn’t very reliable, The standard ps1 had no net access with the exception of the “net yarozze” edditon PS1 that was black and was designed for computer colleges and programming fanatics to write ther own games. Was a nice idea but unfortuanly noone could come up with anything as good as a playstaion game because the memory cards could only hold so much, which made it imposible to make anything decent. that had online access Net Yaroze – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yeah I remember getting my first virus from downloading comand and conquer red allert 2 from a fileshare program. Mother was none too happy
