The amstrad 464 was a pretty nifty machine. develpoers used to like it cos it was very user friendly to program and games like dizzy and other mutli platform titles used to have obvious signs of higher levels of polish on amstrad. We had the amstrad young programers guide that came with it and we would spend hours typing out lines of code form the text book just to see some crappy animation.

Here a link for a good emulator http://www.winape.net/download/WinAPE20A18.zip

its good cos it launches you from the command line insead of just loading the games like other emulator. So if you did want to spend hours typing out code, fire away.

lol too much of a temptation as a great time eater… especially as I once wanted to become a games developer – Most of my programming was learnt on the BBC micro and electron, though the CPC464 was really a BBC with a Z80 processor and a few enhancements to the graphics.

A couple years ago me and some mates from the rural areas round were thinking of doing flash games or other small games but it hasn’t as yet come about due to everyone getting caught up in real life stuff. Though perhaps we should get this together as this area is like Northern Europe and in winter it is not uncommon to find travelling/socialising a hassle or quite impossible due to weather and that is a good time for doing things like writing computer programs.

That said the last PC game I played would have been Wolfenstein. I did even buy a book about graphics and coding in assembler but couldn’t quite get the sample code to work, was around that time I moved from coding to multimedia/systems integration..

Ok, we had a commandor 64 at home in the 80’s; ‘press play on tape’ BC quest for tire or the one that BC went around hitting women on the head to drag them back to his cave so they could be his was two of my favorits. Before that we had a console that my father had bought in Japan(he was a sailor…) with tennis and space invaders…cant remember the name of that…but I do remember I got a Sony walkman(bit off topic this but what to do when you are down memory lane?) as the first one at school, long time before anyone else. Together with that I got four sets of rechargeable batteries incl a recharger as my father could see that the battery expenses would go sky rocketing…..his next trip to Japan he bought this Nitendo Donkey Kong Double pocket console…that was mega hit….

dreamcast, still have it, one of the good things about it was you could play burned games on it with no chipping, just burn and go,
used to get my games down the boot sale and the bloke would bung in a porno cd to play on it, if you spent a tenner on some games.

Sega master system – Alex Kidd rocked man!

Opps I missed one important one off my list

Amiga 500 ( with the all important memory upgrade making a huge and impressive whole 1MB or ram lol )

Only had it a year or so, but for that year in high school everyone either had the Amiga 500 or the Atari 520, they were last must have branded computers before generic PCs took over.

After the the super nintendo and sega mega drive, I peaked on the first generation playstation as far as consoles go.
