I went to the asylum for about 3 weeks and detoxed off of benzos…swear to God it nearly killed me. The first night, they didn’t let me have anything except my PJs and a toothbrush. They basically went through all my shit, took the underwire out of my bra (assholes), wrote down a list of medications I was taking ALL LEGAL, took my shoelaces…everything that you hear about the nuthouse, is true. We weren’t allowed to use the bathroom after meals because they were afraid someone would throw it all back up like bulimia. We had to do these stupid little sit down meetings in groups and talk about how our day was going and shit…totally stupid. The next day, after the first detox, they let me talk to an actual doctor who kept me off of my meds AGAIN. I didn’t sleep the whole time I was there.
They would come in your room at 6 am every morning, take blood, get your blood pressure and your pulse and then you had to get dressed and go to breakfast. If you were well behaved, you got to eat at the cafeteria, if not you had to stay in the unit and have people hover. If you were new, you had to stay in the unit for a week before you could go anywhere. I was barely 17 so I had to be put in with all the kids…KIDS. These kids scared the shit out of me. There were 9-10 year olds who tried to kill themselves. I saw a lot of shit in there. One girl got the thorazine after she banged her head continuously into her dresser and threw her shit around – 6 nurses had to sit on her. Some kid got pissed about not having his laundry done and threw his laundry container across the unit. Some stupid bitch asked me to smuggle in eyeliner for her and this same bitch left her room at like 10 one night to go blow some other kid in another room…oh man. I’m glad I’m out but if I ever go back, I’ll be thrown into the lion’s den with the adults and those people don’t fuck around.
