Think you need some similar interests but only some – just some common ground to do things together really. For instance, me and my lass both have an interest in metal and thrash but she hates dance music and techno – as long as we have the metal in common then end of the day we have a mutual interest and options to go out.
On the personality level I tend to feel the same really applies – some things in common means you understand one another – but sometimes you need someone who has different opinions or comes at things in a different way to really deal with and get through a problem – for me the reason we are currently working well together and can see this one lasting a long time (though it is in the early stages at present so we shall see whether or not I’m right!) is that we both believe that we have a positive effect on each other and where we have personality faults the other person in the relationship seems to help fill those gaps and holes and help with the personality faults that are their making us both better people and both much happier in and with ourselves than before – the whole two become one thing, where the sum of the two parts is greater than either of us cud be witout the others influence – and to get back to the original question I dont think you get that if you are too similar.
