Sunrise & Back to the Future 1989 17,000 people having it at an unlicenced party in Longwick in Buckinghamshire in 1989. The entrance fee was 25 pounds but they had hude production budgets and this rave actually had a massive Jumbotron video screen...

Luton crews I just moved down to Luton a couple of weeks ago and i don't really know the area at all or what the scene is like down here. Anyone know of any local sound systems or could point me in the direction of a party? Heard Exodus mentioned but I don't know anything about them. I desperately need to meet a few people around here!
Cheers, Tim.
something POSITIVE with police & free partys
Quote:
As you all know Exodus have been making arrangements to hold a series of demonstrations up and down the country to find a solution to avoid clashes between rave groups and thier local authorities. And to find a way to hold our events peacefully without the having to break the law or risk injury to ravers and poilice officers or damage to property.
Today there was a massive development in this area. 2 weeks ago we sent a message to Luton town hall stating that we intend to hold these peaceful demonstations beginning outside the town hall and ending up outside Luton Police Station, of course keeping within the current protest laws and bylaws. 10 MINS LATER we get a phone call from Chief Superintedant Ian Middleton, enquiring about our intentions to hold the demos and asking for a meeting to discuss the issues!!! We agreed. That meeting was held today at HAZ Manor (see pics below).
Of course we are always wary of talks with police as in the past we have practically been betrayed and talks have collapsed. But these are different times, and a different poilce force from the early 90's!!! and from the meeting we just had we are all pretty sure that we can achieve a positive outcome. The issue of licensing free parties was the main issue on the table, WE ARE NOW IN THE PROCESS OF LOOKING FOR VENUES FOR RAVES AND A FESTIVAL IN THE LUTON AND BEDS AREA, AND WE HAVE THE FULL SUPPORT AND CO-OPERATION OF THE POLICE AS LONG AS WE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING FACTORS:
1. We dont play out in residential areas
2. We ensure that the venue can handle the volume of people without negatively affecting nearby residential areas
3. The venue is safe, with ample security, stewarding, and first aid facilities, this can all be provided by the sound system cru but should be covered properly!!
4. For outdoor venues, we must have the landowners permission.
5. For indoor venues, a lease agreement or written permission from the owner of the building (The police and council will help find these venues!!). We have alot of ideas on this, watch this space!.
6. Police will obviously not be seen to support drug dealing or drug use, our response to this was that we are vigilant but we cannot do any more than the average club or commercial rave to counter drugs, this is issue in society as a whole, not just Exodus!!!
So we had the meeting and agreed to meet again in a fortnight when some more progress has been made. But this is definatly the first step to a middle ground where we can hold our events without the risk of confrontation with the police and without the extertionate overheads or shit vibes of the commercial scene!!
THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BLUE PRINT FOR EVERY OTHER SOUND, IF IT WORKS HERE THEN WHY NOT EVERYWHERE?? Watch this space for more info, we will be holding a meeting for all the sound systems that wanna be involved very soon as originally intended.
Another step forward.....

Beach Party. Here is a report from my local paper.
http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/2007/09/19/fury-over-party-mess-on-saltburn-beach-84229-19810641/
Obviously leaving a whole world of shit behind after a party has made it more difficult for responsible parties, but interesting quotes towards the end.
Basically saying, 'we don't mind you using the beach for an event, but clear up at the end'. Good attitude from the council.:sign0008:12

woods multi-rigger anyone else there on saturday night?
wicked party, nice mix of rigs and music styles, but still felt like one united party. amazing atmosphere with beautiful smiling people, police were sound and the woods were absolutely awesome!
was so so local for us, but still managed to take us 2 hours to get there, and absolutely ragging my mates car up that track!
also, was it me tripping... or did anyone else hear 'ive got a brand new combine harvester' being played on late sunday morning??
Smoking ban Does anyone else think it's possible that the smoking ban could encourage pissed off "clubbers" to enter into the free party scene?
With a lack of rules and restrictions at free parties maybe disaffected clubbers (and I'm not talking about your average Friday night "Ritzy's" type - more the sort who attend legal hard dance nights) could be looking for somewhere else to hear underground music, party, have a good time and dare I say it generally get off their faces.
Maybe an influx of new people into free party culture could be the best thing to happen to this scene in a while.....

UCL ketamine study results Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that I have recently had my viva, which I passed. So I wanted to thank you all, again(!), for supporting my study into the effects of chronic ketamine use on semantic memory (which is like general knowledge) and subjective experiences.
Below is a copy of the abstract, which I hope will make sense to some of you. Please feel free to ask questions.
In a few days time I’m off on a long holiday to Thailand, which means that I won’t be checking these websites/email, so please don’t be offended if you contact me and I don’t respond for a while.
Once again, thank you, and best wishes,
Justin
Abstract
Background: There has been an increase in the prevalence of recreational ketamine use over the past five years. Due to ketamine’s cognitive and psychotomimetic effects it is being investigated as a pharmacological model for psychosis.
Problem under investigation: To investigate the long-term effects of chronic recreational ketamine use on indirect and direct semantic priming, general semantic processing and subjective experiences.
Participants: Forty-six participants, aged 18 to 46 years, completed the study, 24 male and 22 female.
Design: An independent groups design was used to compare three groups: 16 ketamine users (people who use ketamine and other recreational drugs), 14 poly-drug users (people who use recreational drugs, but not ketamine) and 16 non-drug users (people who have not and do not use illicit drugs). Participants completed computer tasks which assessed semantic memory and pen and paper questionnaires that assessed subjective experiences.
Results: The ketamine group scored higher than the non-drug group on a measure of schizotypy. Semantic processing was found to be similar across the groups, although the ketamine group had significantly longer reaction times to high frequency words than to low frequency words on the direct semantic priming task, whereas the two control groups showed no significant differences.
Conclusions: The ketamine group were impaired relative to the other two groups in their processing of high frequency words compared to low frequency words, and were higher in schizotypy than non-drug users. However, the absence of indirect priming effects across the three groups limits the conclusions that can be drawn and methodological reasons for this are discussed.
