debs BABBLE & S.A.S. – WHAT A CARRY ON!
Desperate deep house fans in need of a quality night out need wait no longer. That’s the news on the grapevine as Babble, Leicester’s premier house music sound system, ready themselves for another all-night orgy of pumping house action. The venue for this mammoth event is Leicester Square, on Leicester’s Belgrave Gate. The crew returned there in November 2004, having taken their show around several of Leicester’s notorious nightspots. A spokesman for the group has said that there will be no holding back as the deep house giants join forces with the Safe And Sound posse, presenting DJs from both camps playing on the combined speaker stacks of Babble and S.A.S. Revellers can expect the best in house music grooves, in a completely transformed venue with the Image Oven lightshow, and Jitterbug visuals.
SWINGING
“It was a night like no other,” revealed our undercover reporter who was present at their last gig. “I don’t know what it was, but at one point the music, the lights and the atmosphere, made me at one with the music. It was like I was inside the groove, man.” So intense is the phenomenon of Babble that, the grooving bass caused one loved up lush to completely loose control. In an ecstatic trance she moved her body and waved her arms frantically in time to the music. Swinging mingers romped and cavorted on a dancefloor that heaved to the hypnotic four-to-the-floor beat, getting high on the throbbing mix of music and rhythm. Contrived and mad as a bag of Nana Moons, these fans just couldn’t get enough. Our reporter made his excuses and left.
NONSENSE
The next instalment of this incredible event is scheduled for Friday March 18th. Early indications show that this night will go on until an outrageous 6am, when smiling and exhausted punters will spill out of the venue talking incoherent nonsense – they don’t call it Babble for nothing! These deep house junkies are never happier than when they get their fix, and dishing out the medicine will be deep house dons, the S.A.S. DJs, who will be spinning tunes in rotation. Babble boys Damien, Mono and Rob Forreal are also set to deliver the sonic assault, and an appearance from decks-honey Debs promises to spice up the night with her saucy antics in the DJ booth. Upstairs in the pool hall will be chill-out with a difference to an intriguing mix of dub, funk and country ‘n’ western.
SEEDY
In an amazing scoop, we can exclusively reveal that new kid on the block Marcus (mo.fi) will be making his debut on the hallowed Babble turntables. Once infamous on the Derby club scene, Marcus was exiled from his hometown in the midst of a scandal that rocked the seedy world of nightclub promotions. The Babble collective are delighted to take him on as their newest gang member.
FUMBLE
Already music scene pundits are wondering of the Babble/S.A.S. collaboration: Could this be the beginning of a beautiful relationship, or will it be nothing more than the frantic fumble of a one night stand?
If you don’t want to get caught in the middle then make sure you avoid Leicester Square on Friday 18th March 2005. This is one night that is guaranteed to spiral out of control.

Possible rig van / party vehicle? Green Goddesses reach end of road
Green Goddess fire engines could have reached the end of the road, as the government says they are not needed.
Forty of the Bedford vehicles, based in Marchington, Staffordshire, and built in the 1950s, are to be auctioned.
The engines became famous in the fire strikes of 1977 and more recently in the firefighters' dispute of 2002-2003.
The country's entire fleet of 1,000 engines could be sold off if the sale, organised by Witham Specialist Vehicles of Colsterworth, Lincs, is a success.
The 40 engines go on sale from 21 February.
The Green Goddess fleet has served us well in emergencies
Nick Raynsford, Fire and Rescue Service Minister
The Green Goddesses were used by the armed forces to cover for striking crews.
But new arrangements put in place since the last fire strike mean that in the event of future industrial action, the military crews should have access to a reserve of modern red fire engines.
Fire and Rescue Service Minister Nick Raynsford said: "The Green Goddess fleet has served us well in emergencies but with now being able to use modern fire appliances as part of our contingency planning arrangements, we are looking at its future.
"The sale of these 40 vehicles is part of this process and is essentially to test the market.
"No decisions have yet been made on the remaining fleet though we are looking at all options.
"This is all about making the public safer and delivering on our commitment to modernise the fire and rescue service."
The Green Goddesses were built in the 1950s to equip the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS), a civilian volunteer force created to fight fires and pump water in the event of a nuclear attack on Britain. After the AFS was disbanded in 1968, the fire engines were put into storage for use in emergencies such as flooding or strikes.
Story from BBC NEWS:
Party Drug Use Studies conducted since the 1970s have suggested a higher prevalence of alcohol and drug use in the LGBT community compared to the general population. Of all the communities affected by the increased use of "party" drugs like cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy, X), ketamine (special K), amyl nitrate (poppers), and methamphetamines (crystal meth), gay men are perhaps most notably affected. In addition to their dangerous physiological effects, these drugs cause disinhibition, incaution, and, some say, heightened sexual arousal. Health providers believe they hinder safe sex practices, that they have catalyzed recently increased rates of gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis A, and HIV in metropolitan LGBT communities, and that they are a serious LGBT health concern. Many providers find the correlation between party drug use and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in urban gay male populations in their locality.
Party drugs, sometimes called dance drugs, are so called because they cause feelings of empathy and euphoria and are associated with the nightclub scene, raves, and circuit dance parties, which travel between cities like Miami, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. LGBT communities routinely organize circuit parties, often as AIDS fundraisers. Ketamine, ecstasy, and amyl nitrate are often brought into the venue by patrons. Many claim that the loss of inhibition and the feelings of disassociation caused by drugs like ketamine heighten their experience and allow them to dance vigorously longer. Consequently, dehydration and heat exhaustion are common.
Teen deaths associated with drug use and nightclub events (raves) have amplified the general public’s awareness to party drugs and their dangerous effects. Most medical emergencies that occur at raves are caused by heat stroke and exhaustion due to overexertion and disregard for well-being, both of which may result from drug use.
