south west very quiet I'm wondering what has happened to the free party scene in the south west (devon in particular).
Very little seems to have been happening this summer. There is most definately a large number of people wanting to party, but few people making the effort to make it happen.
personally, our crew (Fat Baby's Accidental parties) has suffered some set backs with the demise of some resources leaving us pushed to create an event of the quality we aim for. We will be back in action in a couple of weeks, tho.;)
Deep Cartel used to be out every weekend, but I've heard nothing from them for months. The rig seemed to get smaller and quiter until... nothing:(
There have been a few blinders, most notably, on a farm near Week for 'Xs' 40th.
There has always been a 'tradition' around here, that I don't really understand, of club DJ's not playing at free parties. However, the lack of skilled DJ's is definately not the problem. At our last event we ended up with a queue for the decks that could have kept us going for the whole summer:)
The OB around here have been quite reasonable in recent years, so the threat of losing equipment can't be what's keeping all those booming speakers behind closed doors.
There are some very young hip-hop parties, but little else.
What's going on? Anyone shed any light on the matter?
Mexican party Alright all,
just thought i'd share a wee party experience with you all...
I was in Mexico city, having been travelling in Mexico for a month, when i started talking to a dutch guy in my hostel who'd been out for a year or so, an he invites me to a wee "house party", saying he knew a few djs an they'd be doin a few tunes. So, we set off, into the centre of the city about midnight, there's a baseline coming from somewhere but no sign of it. We walk through a fucking huge set of doors with some mexican grippers on it, an we walk into this collonial mansion overlooking the cathedral in the centre of town. As soon as i walked through the doors there was a pounding baseline and a whole lot of fucked people. We walk over to the lift, up six floors, an there must've been a thousand people on the roof of this fucking palace with some fucking storming psy-trance, Stefan (Dutch dude) pulls out a fucking 10g bag of charlie an racks up on the roof bar, where they were giving out free booze, i got completely fucked an had a quality time, themusic an the atmosphere were quality. I ended up chatting to one of the dj's who was one of the few English speakers (my spanish is a fucking embarrasment when i'm not battered!) an got driven back to my hostel on the back of a '60's american pick up at lunchtime with a load of fucked mexicans.
Moral of the story: Go to Mexico, talk to Dutch people
peace
use partyvibe with care I'm sure most of you are already well aware of these facts. But some members don't seem to be, so listen up.
OB know how to use the internet.
OB know about sites like partyvibe.
If you adertise your party on this site, there's a chance alerting the authorities of what you intend to do in advance.
In most cases parties will only get shut down if there are percieved problems e.g. noise, blocked roads, damage to land etc. However, by advertising on here you are increasing the chaces of OB turning up before you have enough people on site to make it hard for them to move you.
Earlier this year, at a party I was involved in, the OB were satisfied that we weren't causing any problems, but made it clear that a free party should be 'invitaiton only' and advertising an event goes against that.
Partyvibe is a good place to exchange ideas, tips, stories etc. but being too open on any website can lead to problems.
And remember, many OB are just people doing a job. If you are co-operative and well organised, even if you feel the law is confrontational, there's no reason you can't carry on.

Due to a lack of news getting through to that far corner of the earth-Avon and Somerset, the police force in their wisdom have failed to react to hordes of testerone up males pouring out on to the streets of every major town beating each other to death and drowning each other in puke. They have also not heard of the carnage, torture of innocent people, mutilation of children and the on going mass slaughter of civilians that is being carried out throughout the world by our government in a misguided notion of ‘freedom’.
At least someone in this country is getting real, all these paranoid MPs harping on about the threat of terrorism, gun crimes and inner city violence; bloody ‘lefties’ scaremongering over racial attacks, Islamaphobia and deaths in police custody, when the real threat to our freedom and livelihood is carried out according to Superintendent Adrian Coombs of the Avon and Somerset police, by people dancing - bastards! There also seems a worry that these ‘dancy’ people, who apparently stay up all night in their drug crazed stupors, are secretly plotting the overthrow of our democratically rejected government and have more friends that the police themselves. Old Coombsy baby, not to be outdone who stresses that he can dance with the best of them – it’s just that no one has asked him - believes that previous laws which stated that there needed to be at least a hundred people gathered in an open space for the old ‘bacon troupe’ to take action, has now been changed to just twenty, even if that’s inside a dodgy old warehouse. This is good news for all those sad people out there who have birthday parties and less than twenty people turn up. ‘It’s the law mate, I would have invited more, you know how it is?’
Yet, this is only half of it. Old Superintendent Adrian Coombs, which could be abbreviated as ‘SAC’ if only, has had a rethink, and thought that those sad people with less than twenty friends may also be, not only smiling in the face of the law, but actually having the audacity to have a good time. And Public Assembly is no longer 20 people, but can be comprised of just two people! Two people! What kind of party’s that! Maybe the sought Coombsy would invite his mates too. ‘Yeah, you know, I would come, it’s just that I’ve got to watch some paint dry-sorry!’ And of course it would be against the law. The next policeman’s Ball, lets all turn up and arrest the bastards.
The force is believed to be one of the first in the country to adopt the new legislation under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 making Avon and Somerset a non smiling zone. This is England’s answer to China’s ‘One Child Policy’ the ‘One Mate Policy’ of Somerset, you are only allowed another mate under exceptional circumstances, and the circumstances are, you have to reek of bacon. Operational planning head, (if only the party scene had one of them) Super Coombsy, stated,
“In the past we’ve had a situation where officers realised they could do little until a rave had been going on for some time, meaning serious disruption to both local people and officers.”
See what you are doing out there, hiding in your derelict warehouses in the midst of some rundown industrial estate, you are forcing the Somerset police, who are busily sorting out serious crime in their tea rooms, to come out in the middle of the night when all ‘decent’ taxpaying types are in bed, and with sirens blaring, turn the devil worshipper’s music off and make those drug induced, drunk individuals drive home. This is about on par with throwing thousands of testeroned up males onto the street at the same time. It is no wonder that these same people came up with the idea of invading Iraq to stop uprisings being put down by force and innocent people being tortured. Can you see a pattern developing here?
Lucky for us the Somerset police will now be able to stop those past outrageous incidents of loved up individuals dancing in fields and smiling away in dusty old empty warehouses. Or will they? Lets face it we’ve all been here before, but be aware those party putter oners as this new legislation applies inside as well and anyone who is moved on faces arrest if they try to start up another gathering within 24 hours. So to recap, you can only have a party if you are alone, not playing music, and you are not inside or outside-no problem!
* Despite the best efforts of the authorities, free parties still happen up and down the country every week. Go to www.partyvibe.com/freeparties.htm for a list of phone numbers and websites.

Fury at all-night rave in woods Fury at all-night rave in woods
http://www.leedstoday.net/
FURIOUS residents are calling for police action following an all-night rave at a Leeds beauty spot.
Hundreds of revellers converged on Adel Woods in the north west of the city for the party, which started at about 10pm on Saturday.
Residents say ear-splitting dance music blared out until 7.30am the next day, despite calls to the police and Leeds City Council's environmental health department.
They accused the authorities of abandoning them by failing to call an early halt to the rave, the second to be held in Adel Woods in two months.
Clive Harris, a 66-year-old retired engineer, of East Causeway Crescent, Adel, said: "I live about half a mile as the crow flies from where it all took place and the noise was horrendous.
"How something like this can be allowed to go on right through the night is just beyond me and if the people behind it think they can get off scot free, then I fear it will keep happening."
Under the terms of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003, police forces now have the power to break up a crowd of 20 people or more in open or indoor areas.
Anyone who is moved on also faces arrest if they try to start up
another gathering within 24 hours.
Previously, officers could only take action if a crowd numbered 100 people or more.
Coun Les Carter (Con, Adel and Wharfedale) said he understood that the police had decided to adopt a "softly softly" approach at the weekend after carrying out a risk assessment.
He said he had been told officers decided not to move in and disperse the ravers because of the size of the crowd and the awkward woodland terrain.
Coun Carter said: "If that was the only safe course of action – and the police were the ones on the scene – then we must assume it was the right one.
"However, I trust every effort is now being made to trace the ringleaders and, if possible, prosecute them.
"I will also be pressing the police for a full explanation of everything they did and didn't do on Saturday night."
A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed today that officers had held off from breaking up the rave because of "health and safety considerations".
She said they had been called to the scene just after 1am but had decided to wait until first light to talk to the organisers.
The spokeswoman said that the ravers had left without any trouble after police finally spoke to them at dawn.
She also said no arrests had been made.
No details were available today on the identity of the organisers of the event.
A city council spokeswoman said environmental health officers had responded to several calls from the public on Saturday evening about the rave.
She said that, because of the nature of the gathering, the officers decided the matter would be best dealt with as a public order disturbance and passed it on to the police.

Concern over rural raves Concern over rural raves

The Forestry Commission is worried about the number of raves in rural Norfolk and Suffolk.
It claims that an average of two parties are held each week, with four broken up last weekend alone.
The raves pose a threat to Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and the habitats of ground-nesting birds and rare flora.
Sparks and flames from campfires and cigarettes heighten the extreme fire risk in forests.
Mike Taylor, operations manager for East Anglia, said: "They are becoming a major problem for us and we are in discussion with the police as to how to stop them.
"They average two a week but we closed down four at the weekend.
"In terms of damage, there are SSSIs, Special Protection Areas and ground-nesting birds, all of which can be disturbed by these activities. It's pretty serious.
"They can often trash a site and probably do not perceive that they are doing any damage."
On Sunday, police moved in to break up a rave on Forestry Commission land at Gasthorpe, near Thetford.
Pigs on a neighbouring farm were disturbed by the loud music, with one animal suffering a broken leg and several litters abandoned by startled sows.
Following the rave, partygoers said they were shocked to learn that the disturbance had caused animals distress.
A spokesman said: "It is never our intention to cause problems and no one would set out to deliberately distress or harm animals.
"All we are is a group of people who love our music. We try our best not to upset anyone."
Chief Insp Carl Edwards, of Norfolk police, said: "We have had a meeting with the Forestry Commission and we are currently looking at our options.
"There is legislation protecting SSSIs, forest bylaws and we also have the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act. It is a question of deciding which tactic would be most effective.
"Obviously we aren't going to go charging into a forest in riot gear to break things up.
"We need to work closely with the Forestry Commission so we know exactly what damage is being done where."

Can anyone help? Last weekend my best friend did quite a lot of speed and was up all Friday night. The next night she did about a pills worth of MDMA. All this week she has had chronic back ache. I don't really see any link here but she is convinced that the drugs and back ache are connected. She often gets this when she does coke.
Is this common? I've never experienced it myself and I was just wondering if its coincedence or not. Does anyone else suffer from this?
Thanks
Drug addiction on rise among Delhi’s teens Drug addiction on rise among Delhi's teens
http://www.newkerala.com/
New Delhi, Aug 10
Party hopping teenagers in the national capital are hooked to what are called 'designer pills', according to experts and police officers who claim that Delhi is witnessing an alarming rise in teenagers addicted to drugs.
According to sources in the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), details of cases registered by authorities have indicated a 40 percent rise in the number of teenagers addicted to drugs in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
Experts say there are no figures available of the number of young drug addicts in New Delhi but they claim it would run into thousands. Pills like ecstasy, designer party drugs, opium and inhalers are provided to teenagers and youngsters by a shadowy network of dealers.
There are several drugs sold clandestinely in the market but trends suggest a drastic increase in the demand for "party drugs" that allow teenagers to party for long hours without feeling exhaustion.
A senior NCB official said: "In all rave parties, which are organised in Delhi and adjoining areas, boys and girls have been caught taking party drugs. During one raid on a rave party, we found many boys and girls were under the influence of such drugs.
"There were others who were addicted to cocaine and other drugs, to which the teenagers graduate from party drugs."
The reason for more teenagers getting addicted to party drugs is that such narcotics give a "high" only for a short period of time, say experts.
"Another new drug is made by mixing ink remover with a chemical and it is then inhaled by youngsters to get a high before partying," said Deputy Commissioner of Poliec D.L. Kashyap of the Narcotics Cell of Delhi Police.
Another trend disturbing police officials is that the drug abuse has been noticed even among teenagers from middle class homes and is no longer restricted to those from affluent families.
Another official said in some cases, both school and college-going girls had been addicted to drugs like ecstasy.
Well-known child psychiatrist Samir Parikh said: "The most shocking thing which I have come across is that hundreds of children studying in public schools and belonging to upper middle class families are taking drugs at a very young age.
"I even came across a case of a 12-year-old student who was addicted to party drugs."
Pairkh said teenagers, particularly those from troubled homes or suffering from depression, have been found to be vulnerable to drug addiction.
Enumerating the reasons for teenagers becoming addicted to drugs, Parikh said: "Primarily it is because of the false sense of glamour associated with drugs that attracts teenagers who want to be different.
In the beginning they take drugs just to show off to others their macho image and then gradually they become addicted."
T-total. Sober at a free party After a drug fueled Glastonbury festival, i have decided to go t-total throughout July just to prove to myself that it can be done and i can still have a good time. So far ive been out to town twice and a free warehouse party and had a good time on nothing but red rooster. I have had the urge for spliff and maybe E but despite numerous offers of booze, i really dont think i will ever need to drink again. Has anyone else been sober at a free party, granted a good E would make it more buzzing but surprisingly i had a good time listening to hardcore techno and dancing my tits off. When everyone else around u is having a good time theres no excuse for not joining in.
Anyone else think alcohol is shite?
