Database reload I accidentally deleted a few notable threads while doing some moderation today and ended up having to reload a copy of our database from 16 hours before which will mean a small amount of lost activity. Sorry all.

DK : More retro computing (Angel and Sinner69! might recognise this) I found this emulator online today - as far as "original experience" is concerned it might be even better than the German ones as its got the authentic font and display too ;)
Was hoping to get an ø instead of a | but the emulator might start up with the international version of the RC700 rather than the domestic one (they also got sold to Scotland where they were used in schools instead of BBC Micros).
Will need to read up about how the display worked on these things as its different from (and smarter than) other 8 bit computers of that same era; the whole system is often set up so 3 terminals can share the same CPU - the design is from early 80s when hardware was way expensive compared to now.
Will also need to track down a decent programmers editor from the emulator site as using the bundled CP/M line editor is way too much pain and angst to deal with at my age (it was bad enough back in 1980s); especially when those lines of code just display the | or @ character and linefeed...(I entered the code directly into the DDT debugger which isn't easy for anything longer than a few bytes)

its hardly as if Japanese people the same age as her do not also suffer the same health problems; if she has a valid reason for needing the painkillers there are ways of getting the prescription approved in Japan. If anything Asian nations can be more tolerant of the long term use of legit pharms in healthcare environments than in UK or Europe...
Professional people are expected to follow the laws and regulations of the country they land up in (and have the free choice whether or not to work for a company or go to that country). I've turned down potentially lucrative job offers in Malaysia and Singapore (at least paying more than in Blighty) as I do not currently agree with the way things are run there....

A simple easy question that no one seems to be able to answer about the ban…. Will/can I buy legal highs abroad once the ban comes into place????? If so where????????? Such a simple question that no one seems to be able to answer..... I have done searches for sites but they ethier have dodgy payment methods, say they won't ship after the ban and the sites abroad that do sell anything seem to be just herbal pills that probably won't do anything at all.......
So where will people in the UK go once the ban becomes law to buy their legal highs??????????????? Do you expect respectable websites yet to open up in the next 6 months that will ship from Europe to the UK? After all, if they are based from outside the UK then surely they are not answerable to UK law?? So why not???.
Perhaps it's just not going to be easy to buy things like Pink Panthas, Doves, Dove ultras (the doves which are still legal in the UK) from outside the UK?? After-all i can not find a site abroad with international shipping to the UK that sells benzo fury..... Something tells me it's going to be one BIG brick wall trying to get anything! So far it looks like it will just be dodgy sites with dodgy payment methods etc........

UK : East : Cambridge boffin hand builds 16 bit CPU from discrete components Although he is looking for a home for it; as it will take all the wall space in an entire room of a medium size house. Hopefully it will go in that museum of computers already in Cambridge...
its even more impressive that an English chap builds it - normally this is the sort of thing the Germans build for fun. The second link goes into more technical detail about the project (including how he made the aluminium frames). The CPU design itself is somewhere between a 68000 and and ARM (you can even download an emulator if you wish!). It cannot run anywhere as fast as those processors; because the wires connecting each bit of the CPU are long and interference will cause problems if the clock speed is too high (the wires will radiate electric signals that find their way into the wrong places and confuse the whole system).
