  • Firstly I’m a digital age retard, me and technology aren’t all that compatible so sorry if this is a dumb question or if I lack or use the incorrect terminology.

My problem is this- I bought a new laptop around 3 months ago. Someone had placed a deposit on it about 2 weeks before I bought it but never returned to the shop for it and left no contact details. This resulted in me buying my new Sony Vaio with all necessary software already installed and the laptop being ready for use when I took it home. It was the last one in the shop too besides the display one so I had little choice considering it met my budget and my needs. Its operating system is Windows 8, not sure if that has any relevance.

One of the pieces of software that came readily installed was McAfee internet security which had been doing its job until 3 days ago when it expired. Rather than paying for a new subscription I opted for Norton as I’d purchased this in the shop alongside my laptop. Before the installation process could commence my computer informed me Norton and McAfee were none compatible and I’d have to uninstall one before installing the other, so following my computer’s instruction I did this. Norton was installed, seemingly no problems until….

Since making this change (and it’s the only thing I can think may be the cause, plus the problem started straight afterwards) my computer is unable to stream anything; youtube, bbcIplayer, 4OD are all kaput. No porn too which is quite upsetting. Also none of the music links be it youtube originated or soundcloud are working on PV.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Norton is a cunt and is more trouble then its worth mate, i’ll be honest with you.

For a free antivirus (for now at least) try AVG. AVG Free | Antivirus | Free Virus Protection

You may also want to consider Malwarebytes for the removal of malware should you have any (I scan every now and then anyway just to be safe..)

And Spybot search and destroy for spyware… Spybot – Search & Destroy from Safer-Networking Ltd.

You need anything comp related feel free to hit me up dude

Googled a free helpline (if you got a lineline phone it’s free anyway);-

    0800 056 4441

I think the description “cunt” is, if anything, far too polite to describe Norton.

So you guys think Norton the cunt is the root of my problems?

Thanks for the answers by the way

When I was on windows I always had a cracked norton with all options, worked smooth as hell. The free avg is too limited to be fully secured. The pay version is good though.
But to me it sounds like you have to get the firewall to accept your traffic. How you do that on win8? Haven’t got a clue.

I don’t think it is the firewall as he can connect to the internet and nothing has changed since he got Norton – although that may have changed some settings I don’t think it would mess around with ports and what not. Imo uninstall Norton and see if that was the cause.

Btw.. you can get any AV you want ‘free’.. not that i’m advocating piracy or anything

I only had Norton once and ending up removing it, it’s pain in the arse……….. as above far better off with Avast, does the job, nice & simple to use and cheap to buy/download online

Also forgot to mention that from time to time pages on the internet fail to load, a quick refresh sorts this though. Refreshing the page does nothing to the other part of the problem.

Have you turned it on and off? 😉

That’s 3 of you shitting on Norton. I can see it going bye-bye before the day is done.

Not yet. That’s a last resort lol.

I’ve even installed Mozilla Firefox just to see if it was Internet Explorer jibbing out but that made no difference. Fuck you Norton!

Before you uninstall Norton just disable it if you can and see if you can operate everything then.. just stick to secure sites

Seemingly unable to disable it. I can turn off certain functions but can’t just turn the software off as a whole without uninstalling.
