    no! well mine dont anyway! I wash them oftem with shampoo with natural ingredients only as most shampoos would kill the dreads. I also go swimming a lot and so its necessary for me to wash that disgusting chlorine smell out:yakk:

    Av had my dreads 9 yrs now so washing them isnt a problem, with new dreads think they would not like too much shampooing. The only problem with washing long dreads is that they take forever to dry..

    Cool cheers Cath,

    Got to get a little more length in my hair yet………

    Just i was having a debate with my ex earlier about them smelling, i cant imagine well maintained ones smelling much at all. She seems to think they always will smell…..

    hence the shaggy dog smell 😉

    dreads are as much work as long normal ‘hair’ or more to keep in good nick, i loved mine an sometimes miss em but my hair is long an curly and just goes into locks in days if i don’t keep an eye on it so i can always get em back if i want i guess.

    not sure it would go down too well at work (tho i do know one person who does what i do with dreads)

    they only smell if you dont look after them properly and dry them out properly after they got wet.

    Starlaugh..you need a few inches of hair to dread as theres an inch of undreaded hair at the roots..I put all my hair in hair wraps using embroidery thread to begin with, stopped washing with normal shampoo and they started dreading after a few months. You do need a lot of patience though cos your scalp will probably itch but theres a lot of products out there to combat that. A good website to check out is;

    true!! Am well proud of me dreads though, had them for years now and theyve got really long

    I have read a lot on a couple of websites about maintaining dreads and it does look a lot of work, but I have tried so many different hair styles and i have always been amazed by dreads (i also have a BIG thing for girls with dreads :biggreen:) so i fancy giving them a go.
