This is my first post here, and I’d just like to say that I highly recommend intrarectal drug administraion (IRDA) for just about anything. As long as it doesn’t burn too much. And if it does, just dilute it a little more. 😉
Keep in mind, IRDA will allow a lot of the chemical into your system bypassing the initial run through the liver (aka ‘first pass metabolism’). This doesn’t mean it’ll avoid the liver completely, it all gets there eventually, it just means that more will get to your blood ‘unmetabolized’. The effect of this is going to vary with the drug. Some drugs are only active AFTER they’ve been metabolized (these are called ‘prodrugs’). Others are more effective in their initial state. In other words, do some research into your drug of interest (DOI). Some things, like codeine, actually work faster orally (believe it or not!). Other things, like alcohol, can be very dangerous. Just be careful!
Either way, IRDA usually involves a much more rapid uptake into the bloodstream (assuming little to no fecal matter is co-existing with the DOI in your rectum), which usually implies a faster onset of action, aka; a more intense ‘rush’. However, the effects will tend to be shorter lived, as, pharmacodynamically speaking, oral and IR drug administration typically have the same area under the curve (AUC).
