  • head story on this TV news report (after 1:08 and the newsreaders intro). This is a regional news broadcast similar to Anglia Tonight.

    http://jt.france3.fr/regions/popup.php?id=b76a_1920&video_number=2

This next report Shows the gendarmes taking away confiscated kit. Apparently the stuff in the van is worth € 30 000 and many more hundred thousands of euros worth of kit has been seized.

    L’édition régionale de la Haute-Normandie – France 3

some rigs are still on site (switched off) but it is a “mexican standoff” where the people do not want to leave for fear the gendarmes will seize the kit; but of course it is not possible to get past without running the gauntlet of the gendarmes.

I thought the area seemed sort of familiar, it is nor far away from where I went on my French exchange trip at school in 1984… can see why a small village there was targeted but this is gonna be the French equivalent of Ramsholt I expect..

Ramsholt?? damn I wish my french was better

Well interesting video, though every clip I see there hardly seems to be anyone in front of the rigs! still so very jelious though iv never been to anything like that!

Ramsholt was a large 3 day rave held in Suffolk in Summer 2005 about 8 miles away from the centre of Ipswich.

Unfortunately I missed out on this as I only moved here in 2006. Doubtless it was a fun party with a massive stack (at least until the riot cops moved in) – a pic of it is even featured on the “Illegal Ravers UK” CD you could at one time buy in tescos (!) – but the backlash from this led to even more entrenchment of the zero tolerance policy here.

its a common observation that there are “few people in front of the stacks” at videos of foreign parties or even large UK raves. There are various reasons for this – one is that making videos usually requires daylight (unless you have a really flash camera with about 16dB video gain) and its sometimes too hot to be in front of the rig – but also at bigger parties there are often loads of rigs and at larger events for safety/security reasons people tend to stay in their own crews or in groups from their own countries/regions (I even noticed this at Wales in 2007).

it wasn’t a magazine (although they did once exist), just a CD of cheesy happy hardcore tracks with a picture of the rave stack on the front cover. I don’t think they even asked permission to use it (although you could argue the ravers didn’t ask permission to be in the field)
