  • ah the old debate, and everyones got their preference!

mainly i gonna get a laptop (partly cos my desktop has died, partly so i can take it into college) and ‘cos i’m doin a creative course and macs are supposed to be the standard for digital production sorta stuff, i’m swayin towards ’em

the one thing is that torrent files are mostly windows only, e.g. i need cubase but i can only find it torrent for the pc. fuck payin £400 for it.

so yeah, generally i’d be interested in people’s experiences, particularly if they’ve used both, and the pro’s/con’s of each etc.

I run a Mac and love it! If you wanna do creative stuff then macs are definately the way to go! (especially when it come to writing tunes!)

The main problem i find with macs is as windows is overpowering at the moment is there is stuff you cant get for them! BUT! there is pretty much always an alternative which often turns out to be the better program in the long run!

Another thing with macs is people are often put off by them because they have grown up using windows! When i first got my mac i was like “DAD why the fuck did you tell me to buy this over a PC!” but now im used to it i would much prefer sufing on my fast loading, easy to set up and control beast of a machine!

Look into what each choices offer and try and have a go on a mac!

Things may seem pretty back to front to start with but like everything else practice makes perfect! At the end of the day it completely depends what you wanna wanna use it for! If its for gaming or just sufring the net and downloading crap go PC! But if you wanna have something that will hardly ever get a virus (down to the fact there are lot less mac virus’s about!) and use for designing stuff, writing tunes or preety much anything creative go mac!

MAy be a bit of a suck arse cos i spend so much on mine lol!

Me and my Mac weeee loooove:love: each other…..

I wouldn’t swap it for two of your PCs.

    Nuff said.

loads of people say macs are better for music / graphics.

i’ve used macs a few times and can’t tell the difference

dual core laptops go for under £200!

Where can ya get ’em for that price Glo?

i like my brothers mac, its lush but i cant afford one so im with pc 🙂

I like macs until they break down [which they do in areas like mine with monotonous regularity as the power supply fluctuates] and then I despise them as you need to get an apple approved person to repair them if its something serious which were I live means shipping the thing 150 miles away….A friend bought one a few years back and essentially gave up on it and came to me for the specs for a comparable PC, which she has now bought, as she was tired of the complete lack of local mac support and the long delays on the equipment returning from repairers. Another person I know has a graveyard of macs which dont work in his house and a newer shinier one he uses.

Hence I live in a PC infested world [we have 2 towers and a laptop all of which work] and I like it there 🙂 We can [with care]strip them and fix them ourselves and my nearest pc parts shop is a mere 15 miles away :weee: or there is the internet. I use windows because of the software I want to use [most only released for windows regretably or we might be running linux not windows]
The laptop is mainly configured for use in music production and recording and does this very well; we use an external soundcard with it.

I first met macs when they had the only GUI [graphical user interface] going and they were great – now they are becoming more and more like PCs and I am not sure this will be good for them in the long run….Most of the programs designed in the heyday of macs exclusively for them have been adapted/rewritten for windows so its no longer a software driven choice.
I have seen some monster crashes which trashed all the data on both kinds of computer and seen both kinds do amazing things 🙂

Horses for courses 😉 [sorry if that wasnt very helpful to you]

My advice is to go and find a person with the mac you are eyeing up and try using it for a few days and then make an informed decision Boothy – ask at the college what they recommend and why too.

I do find some mac users are a bit fanatical about their macs and how they are better than anything else going but you get PC users like that too.:laugh_at:

Don’t get me started on macs :yakk:

If you could Glo as I know someone who would be very happy with a Laptop at that price!

MAC for media, musuic and visual abilities

PC for office and admin and Business.

If you get a the more recent MAC’s (last yr or more) you can have both Apple MAC and Microsoft installed.

But it usually come at a bigger cost. If you are serious about getting the best out of your computer, y’ll go for it.

I use my PC for graphics and desktop publishing work, website design and music – doesnt have to be a mac to do that anymore.

One thing that is worth knowing about macs is if ur in education u can get the VAT knocked off all the macs on the apple website by going to the section called education or something. Dunno if u already knew that or not but it will knock a hundred quid or so off the price.

you get a free ipod nano too if your a student buying a mac, wouldnt sawy me tho tbh
