  • just watched this, was really nice touching and educational doc by russell… well worth a watch, especially if u feel like u have an addictive personality

BBC iPlayer – Russell Brand: From Addiction to Recovery

I saw this advertised. I was tempted to watch but I am a bit funny about BBC docs with controversial topics. They are almost as bad a the fox netwrok in some cases but sometimes they do well so on or recomendation I will give it a whirl : )

    Good vibes

    its russell brand… i don’t think it’ll disappoint u in that regard 🙂

    good vibes 🙂

It took me ages to ‘like’ him as a comedian..
then I really liked him and found him very funny

I then read his autobiography and disliked him immensely

So maybe worth me checking it out..

Yeah man his days working for MTV dance were highly shady and made me not like him. Oh and he also tried to pull the big “sex addict” excuse too which made me loose allot of respect for him but I do find his comedy funny.

I agree with his views about decriminalisation / legalisation and generally support more compassionate treatment for addicts but think folk like him and keith allen etc really aren’t good ambassadors for this – their personal life is at the very least a fucking mess (including doing reprehensible stuff what hurts others) and entertainers aren’t indespensable especially in comparison to healthcare professionals, engineers, trades workers, politicians , accountants, even bankers FFS – what we really need is decent folk what got through addictions without acting like twats or better still never got too badly addicted in the first place being able to come forward.

Mind you some do anyway but get ignored and I do wonder sometimes if these high profile celeb basket cases poison the well for everybody.

unfortunately as despicable as he might be he apparently understands both sides of the coin and (imo) is quite smart… and like all these new ‘celebs sort the industry out’ type programmes (like jamie oliver sorting out school food), they are actually people with energy, that have ideas and are actually capable of making changes, and sadly its the people in the industry that seem stagnant, backward and quite clueless (imo)

todays celebs have to be smart because its a ruthless industry and its pretty much the same as doing actualy psycopathic crime to keep your career, you have to stamp hard down on the knuckles of anyone trying to climb the ladder and lots of people take substances or do other stuff as a coping mechanism. its always been like that to some extent for anyone trying to get ahead in life but more so with ultra-competive industries.

but even the “backward/clueless” people aren’t that stupid. The media in our country has to answer to ofcom and has to accept a certain greater level of censorship and therefore cannot even put across as accurate a depiction of drug use as is discussed on this forum.

Watched this last night, good program. Ol’ Russ really knows his stuff.
