  • Once again Genral Lighting you’ve hit the nail on the head! I said the same about all this anti terror law bullshit. It was supposed to be there to target these few mythical unseen evildoers, and that our decent and freedom loving government was so honourable and principled that they would not dream of using them against democracy.

I knew it would slowly creep over to catch dissenters, activists, protesters and anyone else acting (as opposed to complaining and getting ignored) to make this country better for themselves and others. Or just enjoying themselves in an unauthorised manner.

I realise that the ban on smoking is at its core a very good and healthy idea, especially for the people who would otherwise be working in smoky environments, and that the tobacco companies deserve a good kicking. BUT…

What about the mouth, stomach and other cancers caused by heavy drinking? As well as liver disease.

Banning ciggies means people will probably drink more. What have the drinks corporations, who own most pubs, been saying about the ban?

If it’s really people’s health and wellbeing that the government cares about, why have they been acting so guilty on matters like Gulf War Syndrome? All that depleted uranium has been vapourised and has been carried thousands of miles, affecting people all over the world, not just the poor sods herded over there to keep the wheels of powerful businesses oiled.

Finally, traffic pollution: Why not sort out public transport so that I can just hop on the train from Birmingham to London and back for a reasonable £15 or so WITHOUT having to book a couple of decades in advance? And that’s on top of taxpayer funded subsidies…

Well i now understand how the ban will start now as i was unsure if it kicked in at midnight or what.

Well i was poking the landlord of the local pub with a stick, well i wanted answers :laugh_at: Any way, you can smoke on Saturday night up untill the establishment closes for business, then when they re-open they have to be non-smoking.

Well off out Sat, gotto make the most of my last chance to have a pint and a fag in a pub/club raaa

Does this mean that a 24/7 venue can continue smoking until it eventually closes? 😉

Exactly what i thought! No doubt there is a set time you have to be non smoking by or similar, maybe he used this as an example as he is not a 24 hour venue :crazy_diz

there’s nothing stopping a bobby or two and Council officials doing a “licensing check” the moment the ban kicks in, and busting any venues where they find people smoking.

TBH I suspect there may be a few hours or a day’s grace, but no more than that..

i always thought it was a good idea, but now its coming up so quickly im starting to dread it…

i was sat on my fag break and theyve put up a big sign with red letters saying ‘this smoking shelter will be gone after the shop shuts on the 30th june’… i nearly cried…

They took ours away this morning! Not that i am bothered as i use fag breaks as an excuse to go for a walk around the grounds :bounce_ci

Addicts really believe life’s not worth living without nicotine – I used to feel that way – now I wouldn’t touch one even if I just had one day left to live – they repulse me.

born again non-smoker sees it as a mean scene :yakk:

Just suppose I had gone in a pub with a water pistol and squirted foul smelling cancer causing substances around? Would I get away with that? No

if you put it like that it sounds like terrorism :ar15:

but, just suppose you travelled by car. what then?!?

    Quote:
I’m totally in favour of it, but I think smokers should be allowed to have their own stinking filthy dens where they can smoke themselves to death if they want to, but then they must sign a waiver over their rights to health treatment at public expense.

that would make it fair

I have never smoked, dislike smoking, and will not allow anyone to smoke in my house, car or office.

what if you’re best mate just found out he was dying of cancer and really wanted to light up?
