  • we had a smoke-a-thon saturday nite down the local, theres no shelter outside which is a bit crap

altho its a village pub so when theres only villagers left in on a nite, the ashtrays from behind the bar will pop up again :weee:

the landlord offered 50 ashtrays as a raffle prize last nite :laugh_at:

this ban is turd … i dunno where im allowed to smoke and where im not … BARGHH!!

they say its that 50% enclosed thing, but how are we sposed to work that out, unless we’re architects! footy stadiums will be confusin… surely a stand is less than 50%… i hope so or it could really knock the atmosphere

it can only have two sides, so a roof and a side, for wind and rain, corcular buildings will be confusing!

i get an unpaid hour for lunch, a third of it went for going for my first fag, came back in crawled upstairs wet from the rain, had a cup of tea and then another 20 minutes for my second fag… all because i can no longer go out the back of the shop,

also what happens when im at a legal event with no outside area, 9pm to 6am… i would never make it!! there better be a fookin wristband system…

Nah mate it must be able to have more than 2 walls, otherwise GreenKing must be supplying unsuitable shelters to their local landlords.

Its just got to have more than 50% open sides and 1 meter away from the building

maybe ur fifty percent open is right, altho the one metre away for a building is wrong, its that ur not supposed to smoke less that 10 meters away from a “work” or “public” building so my manager says, thats why the smoking shelter is illegal

Was on the BBC news this morning that i saw them mention the one meter thing, tried to actually work out this whole smoking ban guidelines and the info is a load of tosh!

all i could find on the website was :

Sometimes smoke blows back through my office window. Can smokers be made to smoke away from the building?

The provisions made under the Health Bill only pertain to enclosed and substantially enclosed workplaces and public places. Employers and business owners will continue to have responsibilities under Health and Safety legislation and will need to consider any issues that might arise and take the most appropriate action.
Of course, employers may wish to put voluntary smokefree policies in place that set out where people can smoke.

Looks like it is up too the owners of the building to decide this then… confusing :bounce_fl

ahh i see it might be a wyevale thing, sorry bud

The smoking ban has been in force in Scotland for over a year now and its working really well, i smoke but it doesn’t bother me that i have to go outside for a cigarette. We have smoking shelters at my work and they are basically like bus shelters. It is covered ontop, back and the 2 small sides leaving the front open

    Something like this 900d96debc59137770ef104b0f334672_large.jpg

Plus the going in and out from clubs thing works ok up here too they give you a stamp or a wristband. I quite like the fact that i’m able to go out and cool down when i’m in a club as sometimes the heat is overbearing and if you went out before u weren’t allowed back in..
Most pubs have built canopies or have some kind of shelter for people now as well.

The only problem that i’ve discovered with it is that you can smell peoples BO and farts.. what was once masked by the smell of smoke no longer is… :laugh_at:

I don’t get how its a major change but there has been so little information on the whole ban and what it implys……..anyway don’t effect me …

Think that depends on where you live.. i know that Glasgow and Edinburgh that is the case… but it would help if councils provided more ashtrays
