Some advice in case there are still teenagers and young adults who use forums for info rather than todays dumbed down social networks…. or if you know any teenagers who might benefit from it feel free to print out this and show ti to them.
In the last few days I’ve read yet more reports of what appear to be accidental ODs across the UK as well as NL, to the point I am losing count of which case is which.
There have been a few fatalities; more common is groups of friends end up in hospital and then getting quizzed by Police when they have recovered; which can fuck up long term friendships between young people and their extended families even if everyone recovers and no one ends up in prison.
A common factor is the casualties are teenagers of “year 12/13 / sixth form” age (for those outside England thats biological age 16-19) – or young adults from age 18-25. Are they being more reckless than in the late 80s/early 90s when I was that age? No.
By 1991 MDMA pills were available; but they were priced at £10-£20 each – this was a lot of money considering that a pack of 20 cigarettes was less than £2, or the same amount would buy you enough cannabis to share between 3-5 friends or more booze than you would want to actually drink (but sometimes did anyway because you were young).
However the best pills were about the same strength as todays “superpills” you only needed to take one for a whole night (such as an event starting at 23:00 and finishing 06:00) and even then half was often very strong; you felt that if you had taken the whole pill at once it would have been too much.
Todays pills are much cheaper per unit (complete reverse to the price of cigarettes but does mirror alcohol prices to some extent) but equally strong as those I encountered especially from 1991 to 1992 (and there were sadly some casualties back then, one of them in particular I still miss to this day….)
Those of us who drink will know by experience that sometimes “less is more” especially when it comes to actually enjoying yourselves, recovery times, staying out of dangerous situations.
MDMA is often safer than alcohol when responsibly used; but “less is more” applies to this stuff just as equally – also in the same way if you don’t cane a entire bottle of vodka / gin / scotch you can keep the rest for later, pills and powders don’t “go bad” even if stored for months. Although make sure you stash those where they won’t get you in trouble or risk any other human or animal accidentally ingesting them or coming to harm…
This is how some of us survived the 1980s-2000s raaa

The shit they give to kids is unreal there’s many of older ones who want just not enough money from them
The situation in Ireland is an absolute tragedy, and I use that word for a reason.
Avoidable drug deaths (and I include things like, access to proper compounds, needle exchanges, anything where drug screening would have shown a bad compound, anything like that) must FAR outnumber any terrorist killings.

This weekend The Loop tested “tomorrowland” design pills at Warehouse Project Manchester and found them to contain 220mg of MDMA!
That was exactly the dose that I said the pills I could get were. Really is a worrying amount, not so much for me, but for younger people, especially if it’s their 1st time….
That’s mental

How much rat poison was in it

They would have tweeted a warning if they found it in there and so would Trimbos and Safeparty CH, I would have seen the warning in 3 languages and posted it here.
Its now harder to get rat poison anywhere in Europe than MDMA precursors because of EU animal and environment protection rules – you need an Environment Ministry license for the stronger formulations. Excessive use of it means owls and other creatures that prey on rats become ill which is undesirable, and it can make the rat catchers ill too.
Our local one had to retire as he had been careless and it had thinned his bones so when he tripped over on a rabbit hole he bust his leg and he is only in his early middle age, that sort of condition normally only affects seniors who are given the same stuff to treat other age-related illnesses.
In NL and DE they increasingly have tolerance zones for rats (which are still part of the ecosystem) and/or round up the stray/feral cats and put them to work in farms to scare them away in the rural areas. Most animal rescues in rural areas operate this scheme and many work with the farms and nature protection to provide “wild areas” where rats and other “pest” species can remain.
In town folk often catch the mice and rats alive, and then put the trap on their bicycle (the traps are made to fit well on the rear rack) and then let them free in the open areas where they are not such a nuisance. There is a competition between the Dutch and Germans to build electronic live traps, and in recent times folk with big gardens/farms (especially the Germans) sometimes just build open “traps” that just photograph the trapped creature, and log its GPS location (this data is sent up to nature watching sites), direct it towards a tolerated area and then spring open.
Some of these traps can handle anything to the size of foxes (I saw an impressive one on a preserved railway on German TV a few weeks ago); they put it there as they are also encouraging rare birds to the land where the railways was situated. They even had a “Verboten für Fuchs” sign ahead of it (the presenter said that was for foxes who could read :laugh_at:).
I wouldn’t be surprised if the tolerance of pot and MDMA usage in some areas is a factor in everyone becoming treehuggers there :laugh_at:
Rat catcher is a job in Europe?
has been for some years but they usually now deal with multiple species and the modern term is “wildlife management”. in ancient times they provided basic human healthcare and often got away with hoarding “poisons” that today would be controlled drugs (some of which they kept for their own enjoyment).
Some also kept rats as pets (which of course kept them in work) and bred those which were unusual colours, todays pet rats are descended from them!
I’m more familiar with the term wildlife management.

2 young women in Manchester bluelighted to emergency department after taking pills in design of red lego bricks. High MDMA content >200mg suspected.
In 2015 57 people in UK died from gross overdoses of pure MDMA, which has never happened in previous years.
See some people just dnt care, if your going to deal dnt be a dick and keep you dose proper, if your goin to buy make sure your aware of what you are buying

In NL the harm reduction organisations now advise starting with 1/4 rather than 1/2 of a pill. One problem though is the pills can be unusual shapes which are often akward to break up especially in environments such as licensed venues with zero tolerance rules on overt drug use.
That said I’ve not seen any reports of major ODs in the Dutch news following ADE whereas there were two fatals in 2014 which suggests the access to testing and acceptance of harm reduction organisations does help.
Even the Dutch cops say “we’d rather you didn’t take drugs, but if you are still going to be aware of your safety.
Another factor may be young adults in NL have to pay for their own health insurance (only stuff like 112 emergency service ambulances is free at source), what we call “National Insurance” was stopped 10-20 years ago in favour of more privatisation so if they get health problems from drug use their premiums go up or their insurance company can cancel the policy. (older people are calling for full state funded healthcare to be returned).
Its still not perfect there by any means, was reading today about how the MDMA factories just dump all the unwanted chemicals into the ditches in rural areas (often where few people are party drug users) whilst they make all the money in Amsterdam, Rotterdam etc – the cops, fire brigade and environment protection have to deal with the cleanup and NL govt has to put aside €1 000 000 for assisting the Councils with the costs. Although stuff like ADE etc clearly must earn Amsterdam loads in tourism and tax revenue, the chemicals get dumped in places like Breda, Gouda and Brabant which are many km away and these areas don’t get much benefit from the nightlife.
Just a reminder that pills in circulation across Northern Europe remain extra strong at >200mg. There have recently been fatal OD’s in Denmark, and in the case below from the SW of England two young lads who were found guilty of supplying to a friend of theirs who did not survive were very lucky to escape prison in part because because the parents of the deceased kid told the judge that they did not think sending them to jail would solve anything (one of the dealers even warned his friend of the strength but the lad ignored the warnings)
