youtube have misidentified the track (the Floral Dance from the Brighouse and Rastrick Band in the North of England) it as Swanee River and warned it may be blocked in some countries – I have put the correct description on the video but not sure how to notify them otherwise. At least I spared everyone the version “sung” by Terry Wogan (I think it was done as a joke or for charity; if you ever hear it you will understand why he is more suited to being a presenter than a singer)

There were two bonuses; finding the birdwatchers magazine which has identifed a new species of goose which has diverged from the Canada Goose; and that as the 1970s radiocassette (which was part of some 1970s bureau desk set up as a prop for “reminisence”) still had its mains lead attached but no safety test records; and that lead is intermittent anyway.

So I am authorised to “red sticker” it as unsafe and remove it (it was put into a large bag and went home with me on my bike secured by the spring rack above the panniers.

I replaced it with a modern replica of the Bush transistor portables; which had been left upstairs but unused alongside two other working portable radios – when I plugged it in I saw why – it is shite; (using a ferrite rod too short and design that drifts frequency and/or is swamped by interference too easily) – the 1970s models are actually better quality!
