I don’t understand why any music labels playing EDM do this; goes completly against the spirit of the culture behind our scene.
I don’t mind them trying to get a fraction of a euro cent royalties via ads which I block anyway – the worst part of it is the rules seem completely inconsistent and even more so with “modern” music.
I’ve taken to using obscure Schlager tracks as background music for youtube as they don’t get pulled up as often, even by the notoriously strict German labels/copyright feds.
A couple of years ago I had a video I made muted because I’d use a popular old skool jungle track from the UK as background.
The most stupid part of this is not only had I only used a fraction of this track; it was recorded on the built in mic of a camcorder Added to which the video was a demonstration of an audio muting circuit for use in a radio studio – so the track would be full of gaps and background noise anyway making it quite useless for illegal copying.
