UK : East : Norfolk "farmer couples dream wedding" busted for noise! This court case just shows how divided society is and how entrenched views are - this couple (who aren't exactly young irresponsible people) were busted for a private event on their own family farm, because the fucking whinging nimby neighbours wouldn't let them have one weekend of fun...
They made some good points though - if a couple like this go through the proper channels and still get busted - its hardly surprising younger people take the risk of illegal events if they feel they will "get in trouble whatever they do"

Woodland wedding courts trouble
21 June 2007 04:36
It was a magical woodland wedding ceremony in a candlelit chapel of love, with straw bale pews and an organ.
But the all-night party celebrating the marriage of David and Sarah Alston ended in a court conviction - and a post-wedding bill, of fines and costs, totalling more than £9,000.
For the dance music pumping from the outdoor venue near Cromer, ironically including a live band called Dead Silence, was in breach of a council noise abatement notice.
Supply teacher Mr Alston, 45, and his brother Rob, 48, both from Low Common, Alby, who were the joint landowners of the Bartle's Wood party site, denied the breach, but were found guilty by magistrates yesterday.
David Alston was fined £750, Rob Alston £500 and both - members of a well-known Norfolk farming family - ordered to pay costs of £4,000.
Afterwards David and his wife, who is a designer, were angry that they had been taken to task over their legal party, done in co-operation with the authorities, when many illegal raves were escaping court action.
The wedding party, attended by more than 300 guests last August, also featured a home-made beach of 50 tonnes of sand, a hot-tub, a tee-pee, casino, as well as football, cricket and sumo-wrestling fun for the guests. The marriage was formalised at a register office a few days later.
But it was the all-night music which upset neighbours at a nearby camp site, who complained to the council and saw the breaches of a noise notice which had been served the day before the party in a bid to keep amplified music in check.
Cromer magistrates heard that people camping at the Deer's Glade site, at Hanworth, complained - resulting in North Norfolk District Council environmental protection officer Davina Romaine visiting the party, on the weekend of August 5-6, and reporting three breaches.
David Alston said he notified the police, council and neighbours of the party, and said they could have an invitation if they wanted.
During the event he liaised with Miss Romaine, turning the music down when advised, and checked with the council call centre for complaints, but was unaware of any problems before the breach was notified.
He also said the caravan park put up a notice saying they would try to stop the party, "giving the false impression it was an unpleasant affair" causing holidaymakers to view it as a nuisance rather than a mild irritation.
David Alston added that the type of music being played - a mixture of drum and bass, techno and reggae - may have affected people's perceptions, with one witness having said she would have found it less intimidating if it had been the sound of Abba.
Barrister Matthew McNiff, for the council, said the case was simply about whether the notice had been breached, which was a subjective decision by the official using either ears or electronic equipment.
The "boom, boom" could also be a nuisance if it was no louder than background noise but was out of character to the area - and the Alstons could have simply turned the music off, as they had done during the wedding ceremony so they could speak or be heard.
Tony Williams, chairman of the bench, said the Alstons' attempts at co-operation were not the same as compliance, but that the breach was negligent rather than intentional.
The level of fines, which could have been a maximum of £5,000, reflected their previous good character, and Rob Alston's lesser involvement.
David Alston told the magistrates he was devastated the matter had ended up in court.
Afterwards he added that they would consider appealing, as it was "ridiculous" the council had picked on a wedding, while Sarah said it did not send out a very good message to youngsters who might be encouraged to hold illegal raves, having seen
the problems a legal party had suffered.
Council environmental protection team leader Mark Whitmore said they worked hard to allow the party to take place by talking to the Alstons, but their "failure to comply with reasonable requirements" resulted in the court action, adding: "While this party was not all illegal rave, the effects were the same on local residents."
But despite the hefty price they paid, the bride and groom felt the event was "still all worth it - it was the best day of our lives".

What the hell's going on :crazy_diz

A car on fire has been driven at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, police have confirmed.
Eyewitnesses have described a Jeep Cherokee being driven at speed towards the building with flames coming out from underneath.
They have also described seeing two Aisan men, one of whom was on fire, who had been in the car.
The airport has been evacuated and all flights suspended following the incident.
One eyewitness said: "I heard the sound of a car's wheels spinning and smoke smoke coming out.
"I saw a Jeep Cherokee apparently as if it was trying to get right through the doors into the terminal building.
"There were flames coming out from underneath then some men appeared from in amongst the flames.
"The police ran over and the people started fighting with the police. I then heard what sounded like an explosion."

read and sign the government say you can only hear music if you pay large sums of money to commercial venues
read and sign below
The Government have recently passed laws in the UK to try and suppress live music and dance. Pubs which could previously offer work to solo singers or duos now have to pay for a special licence and can only have 12 of these per year. Even school Xmas concerts need to be licensed.
If you don't know there is a UK government web site where anyone can now start a petition and that's what is being done. we've just received the following email which explains things more clearly and gives the site address . If you care about keeping music live please take the time to sign the petition.
Subject: Music/Licensing Laws - Official Downing Street petition
Date: Wed, 17 Jan 2007 12:36:37
Please circulate
The live music/licensing e-petition now has nearly 4550 signatures.
It currently stands at no.17 in the list of 1,702 petitions on the
Number 10 website: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/licensing/
This is good, especially in just under a month - and there are five
more months in which people can sign. (CLOSING DATE: 11 June 2007).
But the petition needs to do much better to make an impression on ministers, and to encourage DCMS to implement music-friendly amendments.
The petition is for everyone, not just musicians. Please consider
signing if you haven't already done so. If you have signed, encourage friends to sign.
Points to remember about the new legislation:
a.. The unlicensed provision of even one musician is a potential
criminal offence (although some places are exempt, including places of public religious worship, royal palaces and moving vehicles). Max penalty: £20,000 fine and six months in prison.
b.. The rationale is to prevent noise, crime and disorder, to ensure public safety, and the protection of children from harm.
c.. But broadcast entertainment, including sport and music, is exempt - no matter where, and no matter how powerfully amplified.
d.. In the transition to the new regime, bars with jukeboxes, CD
players etc were automatically granted a license to play recorded
music; but their automatic entitlement to one or two musicians was abolished.
e.. For the first time, private performances raising money for charity are licensable.
f.. School performances open to friends and family are licensable -
they count as public performances.
g.. Under the old regime all premises licensed to sell alcohol for
consumption on the premises were automatically allowed up to two live musicians (the 'two in a bar rule').
h.. In December, DCMS published research confirming that about 40% of these have lost any automatic entitlement to live music as a result of the new Act:
'Very few establishments that wanted a new license were denied it, and many who were previously limited to 2-in-a-bar now have the ability to stage music with 2 or more musicians... This contrasts, of course, with the fact that 40% of establishments now have no automatic means of putting on live music (i.e. they would have to give a TEN).'
['Licensing Act 2003: The experience of smaller establishments in
applying for live music authorization'; December 2006', paragraphs
6.1.1 and 6.1.2 'Conclusions', p54; Caroline Callahan, Andy Martin,
Anna Pierce, Ipsos-MORI]
'TEN' stands for Temporary Event Notice - in effect a temporary
entertainment licence. Only 12 are allowed per premises per year.
They cost £21 each. See the full MORI reports on this site:

A Viking ship has set sail for Dublin from the Danish port of Roskilde, in an attempt to recreate the voyages undertaken by early Norsemen.
The 30m (98.5ft) long replica, called Sea Stallion, is said to be the world's largest reconstructed Viking vessel.
It is based on a ship made nearly 1,000 years ago in Ireland, which in 1962 was excavated from the Roskilde fjord.
A crew of 65 volunteers will travel the 1,900km (1,200 miles) to Dublin, using only oar and sail power.
"The Vikings are coming back. Be prepared," Captain Carsten Hvid shouted before jumping onboard the ship.
The original, which was made in 1042, is believed to have taken part in clashes between the Anglo-Saxons and Normans in 1050-1060, when many Danish Vikings lived in Ireland.
The boat sank in the Roskilde fjord at the end of the 11th century, while defending the country's coast from Norwegian Vikings.
The replica was constructed with around 300 oak trees and 7,000 iron nails and rivets.
Rough weather
It has a top speed 15-20 knots, but is equipped with GPS satellite navigation and radar. A modern support boat with medical and rescue experts will also accompany the ship.
The aim of the voyage is to sail uninterrupted to Dublin across the North Sea and around the north tip of Scotland.
The crew say the toughest challenge will be the weather, with no shelter on the open vessel from crashing waves, wind or rain.
"After all, we are testing the construction. Can it resist the rough weather? And the nights get really cold," Louise Henriksen, a 27-year-old historian and crew member, said.
"If we get 10 hours of rain and storms, we still need to be able to laugh to survive," said Claus Oreskov, 46, a Danish crew member.
"What all crew members have in common is that we all are a bit crazy."
The ship hopes to reach Dublin on 14 August.

Asbo proves a career boost
The Oxford Mail wrote:
In 2006, Ryan Hawkins became the first raver in the country to be banned from organising illegal parties under the terms of a unique Asbo.Eighteen months later, he has turned that infamy into a career boost and even changed his stage name to Ryan Asbo.
Mr Hawkins was handed the order after admitting organising a string of illegal parties, mainly on the Ridgeway, and police described him as a "major player in the Oxfordshire rave scene".
But since the banning order, Mr Hawkins's stock has soared on the Oxford dance scene - and he now promotes and performs at three regular nights. The 24-year-old DJ said: "I don't think I deserved to get one, but I am quite glad I did because I am a lot more successful.
"It did me the world of good. I am not rolling around in a field on Sundays."
Mr Hawkins, who lives in Marston, Oxford, has also had fun with his Asbo, through his new stage name and a theme night organised in honour of Thames Valley Police. But insists it is all in good humour and he has taken his Asbo seriously.
He said: "I was just under Ryan Hawkins before. Most DJs have a name with some meaning so I went for Ryan Asbo.
"In May, we did a theme night on Thames Valley Police as a bit of a wind-up. We did truncheon trance and charlie-echo techno. "Everyone came dressed up as the police. It was one of our most popular nights."
Under the terms of the Asbo, Mr Hawkins has to tell police seven days in advance if he intends to travel with records or sound equipment, say where he is going, when and give details of the car he is using.
The order expires in January and Mr Hawkins said he hoped to carry on promoting and set up his own business hiring out sound equipment. He admits that he misses the outdoor parties and is even thinking of planning a legal outdoor rave next summer.
But for now, he is concentrating on the three regular nights he promotes and plays at - Project Storm and Kinetic in Oxford and Surge Sound System in Banbury. Business at the Oxford nights is so good that one-off nights at the 1,200-capacity Oxford Brookes University are planned in the autumn.
