Definition: Megarave 1. megarave
An illegal event singled out to be busted by riot police, marked as such by some website called Squatjuice.
Are you coming to the Megarave Dave? I hear it'll be a riot!
2. MegaRave
An illegal event heavily promoted across the Internet (particularly SquatJuice) as being the biggest rave evar, to the point where Police forces can hardly open their web browser or newspaper without stumbling across a mention of it.
This forces their usually lazy hand into sending as many officers as they can find to break up the party with as much force as they can, creating a situation known as the MEGARIOT.

Street Lamp Camera Plan
X-ray cameras could be installed on lampposts on British streets to spot armed terrorists and other criminals, it has been claimed.
According to a leaked memo seen by The Sun, "detection of weapons and explosives will become easier" if the scheme drawn up by Home Office officials is adopted
However, officials acknowledged it would be highly controversial as the cameras can "see" through clothing.
"The social acceptability of routine intrusive detection measures and the operational response required in the event of an alarm are likely to be limiting factors," the memo warned.
"Privacy is an issue because the machines see through clothing."
The Sun said the memo, dated January 17, was drawn up by the Home Office for the Prime Minister's working group on security crime and justice.
Seeing through clothing
It noted some technologies used for airport security had already been used in police operations searching for drugs and weapons in nightclubs.
"These and other could be developed for a much more widespread use in public places," it said.
"Street furniture could routinely house detection systems that would indicate the likely presence of a gun, for example."
A Home Office spokeswoman said: "We don't comment on leaked documents".
Pie recipe – you wouldn’t get away with this today! I'm sure some of those species are becoming rare today and you'd get in serious trouble making pies out of them, apart from the bird flu controls!..
I reckon it would be a tasty pie though....(by medieval standards at least)
Quote:
"Trois perdriaulx gros et reffais
Au milieu du pate me mets;
Mais gardes bien que tu ne failles
A moi prendre six grosses cailles,
De quoi tu les apuyeras.
Et puis apres tu me prendras
Une douzaine d'alouetes
Qu'environ les cailles me mettes,
Et puis pendras de ces maches
Et de ces petits oiseles:
Selon ce que tu en auras,
Le pate m'en billeteras.
Or te fault faire pourveance
Qui de cendre ait l'atre bien net;
E quand sera bien a point cuit,
I n'est si bon mangier, ce cuit."
("Put me in the middle of the pie three young partridges large and fat;
But take good care not to fail to take six fine quail to put by their
side.
After that you must take a dozen skylarks, which round the quail you must
place;
And then you must take some thrushes and such other little birds as you
can get to garnish the pie.
Further, you must provide yourself with a little bacon, which must not be
in the least rank (reasty), and you must cut it into pieces of the size
of a die, and sprinkle them into the pie.
If you want it to be in quite good form, you must put some sour grapes in
and a very little salt ...
... Have eggs put into the paste, and the crust made rather hard of the
flour of pure wheat.
Put in neither spice nor cheese ...
Put it into the oven just at the proper heat,
The bottom of which must be quite free from ashes;
And when it is baked enough, isn't that a dish to feast on!")

UK : East : Homeless teens sleeping in Ipswich parks Its shocking that two teenagers can just be dumped by their familes like this, particularly given the risks these days (especially after the recent murders, and the constant risk of random violence if you are in the wrong place late at night amongst angry people drunk or on drugs)
Whatever lifestyles the girls had (IME most teens leave home because their parents don't agree with their lifestyles) they don't deserve to be just abandoned by their families - it Looks like children are now the latest throwaway item...
worse still there are bare empty buildings here but I don't see any squats which would indicate the feds and property owners are really harsh on squatting here...
Teens resort to sleeping in park
08 February 2007 | 18:21
TEENAGERS in Ipswich have resorted to sleeping in parks because ALL hostel and housing association beds in the town are taken, The Evening Star can reveal today.
In total there are more than 230 rooms at various locations around the town.
However a Star investigation found that on one night ALL places taken with some waiting lists running to as long as six months.
Ipswich Council runs an emergency accommodation scheme but has just two beds which can only be used for a single night.
Jade Field, 18, said the situation is so bad that both she and her friend Kylie, also 18, had slept in a park for around a week.
This is despite the pair claiming they approached hostels and the council for help.
She said: “I'm scared about staying out in the park but I have no other choice.
“I'm in a bit of a state really.
“I have been to the council four times.
“I asked them if they could put me anywhere, I didn't care where it was.
“They told me I was not a priority.
“All the hostels are full and we have tried asking about getting housing benefit and renting privately but we haven't got a guarantor.
“I don't know what we are going to do.”
Out of the seven housing associations and hostels contacted by The Star on a single evening, not one had a room spare.
Ipswich Borough councillor Steven Wells, responsible for housing, said he was concerned by the lack of rooms available in the town but said the council would provide a bed to anyone with a genuine desire to stay off the streets.
He added that efforts would be made to find accommodation for Ms Field.
Cllr Wells said: “We have an obligation to look after under 18s, the vulnerable, those with children, disabilities or learning difficulties.
“We also have a statutory duty to everyone else to give the best advice possible.
“Personally I disagree with the statutory obligations and think the government should re-look at them.
“We try and take the extra step and extra commitment to make sure nobody needs to sleep rough in Ipswich if they don't want to.
“We do not just have two beds - we can purchase more if necessary.
“For people who want to get a permanent solution we will work with them and not turn them away.
“We will keep allowing them to stay until the situation is resolved.”

car tax If you drive a car, please read -
Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax.
The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the government to at least take any notice.
Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.
On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.
If you are concerned about this Orwellian plan and want to stop the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Sign up if you value your freedom and democratic rights -
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax
And don't forget to acknowledge the government's return email when you get it or your objection will not be registered

Silk Road Arts

We live in an age when unprecedented contact between peoples seems to throw up more borders and suspicion…
The legendary Silk Road is an example of age-long exchanges between peoples – Jew, Muslim, Christian, Buddhist – from Moorish Spain to Arab peninsula, across Central Asia to China. In their trade they left traces in each other's dance, song, poetry, beliefs.

SILK ROAD ARTS is an initiative to foster greater harmony by offering events, workshops, and artists inspired by the Silk Road.

One of the areas of our mission is to re-introduce Muslim and non-Muslim to a spiritually tolerant expression of Islam and wider view of its arts.

The Past:

Sue Hall has been involved in the English Counterculture since the sixties. She will present a series of historical photos from the Sixties Counterculture and talk about the influences that led up to it. Sue will tell us what it was like to be at the legendary Alternative Sixties club UFO as well as the legendary sixties 'happening', the 14 hour Technicolour Dream She will then be happy to take questions from the audience. Sue recently gave a well-received talk on LSD in Basel at the 100th birthday of LSD inventor Albert Hoffmann.

Lee Harris , familiar to many as the owner of Britain's legendary 'headshop' on Portobello Road, Alchemy , described himself as a 'footsoldier of the underground'. He will share his vast knowledge of the Sixties Counterculture with us by recounting in his inimitable fashion various scenes and tales from that time. LEE, now an 'Angel Headed hip hop artist' is still very active in the Counterculture and in Jimmy Hendrix's words is 'keeping the freak flag flying high'.

Synergy – inclusive to Smokers and Non-Smokers alike…

As most of you will know Synergy is one of the pioneering clubs that supports the peaceful (and healthy) coexistence of smokers and non-smokers alike. To this effect we are designating large areas that are clearly marked as non smoking. We have received much support for this attempt – thank you to all who help us achieve this not always easy goal.

FOX HUNTING: The big question. Foxhunting isn't about country vs city or working class vs toffs. i think that these are just distractions introduced by the pro-hunting lobby because it is clear that they have lost the battle to keep foxhunting going
What sensible arguments for keeping the hunting going is there?
Fox is a pest - so are rats and other vermon but does anybody dress up in stupid clothes chasing them on horseback. is there not far more efficient and humane methods of controlling pests than hunting. if pest control was the real issue why do hunt masters create fox-friendly environmnets to ensure that there are enough foxes to hunt?
Its a tradition - so were witch burning and the plague, nobody's asking for them to be brought back. traditions die out, its called progress no?.
Its a source of employment - so were the mines, the shipyards and the steelworks but I don't remember this countryside alliance complaining about their closure. millions of people lose their job in this country every year and millions of people find new jobs every year. It may not always be pleasant but it happens
The hounds will have to be put down - more correctly the hounds will have be put down sooner. Hunts kill off hounds when they're only a few years old anyway.
what's yr views, some folk i know are in favour of it.12
Points of disagreement and the Irish famine Whats the point of having a politics thread where you arent allowed to disagree?:you_crazy
The famine thread has been shut, for no good reason.
What about a new name for this section, 'politics, but nothin too controversial'.
Very disappointing... anybody wanna defend it, Raj, Angel?:hopeless:12
