Forest fire operation continues
ADAM GRETTON

Firefighters are still battling against a forest blaze, which was the scene of an illegal rave at the weekend.
Crews from across Norfolk and Suffolk are expected to be at the Forestry Commission land between Weeting and Methwold for the rest of the day.
More than seventy firefighters from eight stations were called to the forest at about 4pm on Sunday, following reports of three hectares of woodland ablaze.
Phil Berry, fire station manager at Thetford, said the operation was made more difficult by the presence of about 200 people and 80 cars for an illegal rave.
“We had quite a severe fire in the forest and undergrowth and was spreading to a crop of standing corn. We were also faced with a lot of members of the public and it took a long time to confirm that no one was in the affected area,” he said.
Crews reduced the blaze “significantly” by sunset on Sunday, but were forced to adopt a “watching brief” during the hours of darkness.
Six appliances were back on scene yesterday morning to dampen down and tackle the fire which had spread to underground peat troughs.
Station Manager Berry said officers were working on a rolling shift pattern to avoid dehydration and was hoping to extinguish the fire by sunset.
“It has been difficult because of the heat we are having to work in. It is a very messy job and arduous because we are having to dig the peat out.”
He called for forest users to use common sense and not to start up BBQs, open fires or use smoking materials in woodland areas.
“We would urge the public to please be aware of their acts in woodlands at anytime, but particularly now when it is very dry and the chances of a fire are high. As this demonstrates, it has a huge impact on the resources needed to fight a fire and affects a beautiful forest.
At the height of the fire on Sunday evening, more than seventy firefighters were on scene from stations in Methwold, Brandon, Thetford, Downham Market, Swaffham, Newmarket, Wymondham, East Harling and Watton.12
England local elections – who voted? come on then
who voted?
i got to the polling station 10 minutes before it closed and 15% had turned uout :surprised
The four candidates here ranged from uninspiring, at best, to moronic, at worst.
Every candidate pledged to introduce a 20 MPH speed limit to a road where no car ever reaches more than 3 MPH and pollution is some of the worst in the country.
How about a tram-way?
Oh, go back to sleep, 'your' government is in control.
we had a green candidate, who I voted for, being a lifelong supporter of the green movement an a believer in the need for sustainable living
i met him while he was out leafletting... he couldn't even hold a proper conversation with me.. a lifelong supporter of the movement / party...
how can he pursuade others? where's the radical thinking? the community engagement?

UK : London (S) : Cannabis growing factories busted… From icsouthlondon
Although I no longer use cannabis much nowadays (lost the desire for it as I grew older) - I'm still all for decriminalisation and sensible use/production..
Sadly this sort of stuff seems to be playing straight into the cops hands, particularly reports on neglected children and pets - and why can't these people just pay for the 'leccy, as the plant sales themselves are surely a very high profit margin?
a sad indictment on how "unregulated enterprises" often seem to bring out the worst in people...
Cannabis factories are found by police
Jul 13 2005
By Mandy Little, The Mercury
EARLY morning raids busted cannabis factories in a bid to crack down on the drugs trade and linked criminal activity.
Greenwich police, staff from London Fire Brigade, Greenwich council and electricity companies took part in Operation Damson last Wednesday.
They targeted 23 properties and discovered factories in 10 of them.
The factories were netting thousands of pounds for their operators. More than 1,982 plants were seized.
Police arrested 11 people on charges in connection with the cultivation of cannabis and two on suspicion of immigration offences.
Three children aged 10, four and one were found unattended and taken into police protection.
A sick dog was handed over to the RSPCA.
Police also found DVDs which suggested counterfeit operations were also taking place.
In all premises there was evidence of illegal use of electricity.
The fire brigade was on hand because hundreds of fires break out in factories in London every year due to the haphazard rewiring and dangerous materials often stored.
Borough commander Peter Lowton said the operation looked set to seriously disrupt the supply of drugs across South London.
He added: "We are sending a strong message to the operators that police will act to close them down wherever information from the community raises suspicions."
He added operators are often involved in other crimes including people trafficking and prostitution.
He warned that the high profits being made in Greenwich could attract criminals from other areas.
He said that 637 cannabis plants worth £190,000 were discovered in one small semi-detached house in Plumstead.
"When you consider that most factories can get three harvests a year, it's clear this is a lucrative occupation," he added.
He urged people to give them information about suspected cannabis growing.

"One question many viewers ask is, why was America and the rest of the world not shown the video footage and the photographs of the Pentagon, BEFORE the outer wall had collapsed? Many people do not realize that the outer wall of the Pentagon did not collapse until 20 minutes after the initial impact of what we were told was a Boeing 757."

911 in Plane Site (2004)
"I have seen a lot of movies on the 9-11 cover up. however, this one probably sums up the endless proof the best. Also I do believe that Van Kliest was the first person to notice the pod and the missile flash before the planes hit the tower. Good call man. sometimes the best place to hide something is right in front of your face! Just one quick comment on the flashes. It is absolutely irrefutable that the flash happens before the first plane hits. The second one is controversial. However, if the flash really is the fuselage sparking off the tower wouldn't the wings also spark????? When you view the footage the rest of the plane goes in without any flash.
Don't listen to these people that are saying this movie is terrible. They are in denial. Take the red pill and do some research. "
