Kung Foo Kitchen Review… Fluid Foundation Review - Launch Party 23rd Feb http://www.fluidfoundation.com/venueDetails.asp?BarRef=3041
You’ve had your dim sum at Yauatcha , you’ve seen House of Flying Daggers but you still can’t get your fix for all things oriental. Well, you could do a lot worse than indulge in a night at KFK to get your Kung Fu kicks.
The monthly Kung Foo Kitchen night at Club NYT tempers a hip hop style night with Kung Fu movies (projected on the wall of the dancefloor) and an eclectic mix of music (drum n bass, ska, soul and latin house classics from different DJs each month such as Ben Wilcox, Ed D’Souza). Hence the friendly crowd is an equally mixed bag with beautiful boys wearing fur-hooded anoraks and jeans mingling with lycra-clad lasses.
Hip hop touches are limited to a coupla pieces of graffiti art, the odd record but the best touch are the breakers. Funk and Disorderly were the crew in on the launch night and they were jaw-droppingly good. Accompanied by live congas they came on at 11pm, which was also when the Kung Fu films started rolling.
Though the night doesn’t really kick off till 11, if you want to take advantage of their decent drinks promos (two-for-one on bottles of Bud and Stella) and cheaper entrance (£3 before 10, £6 after) then turn up a touch earlier.
If you’re in the neighbourhood and looking for a cool night out with a cool crowd then leave the suburban chavs to the neighbouring Tiger Tiger and pay this easy to swallow hip hop night a visit. KFK’s got a nice kick.

Blair admits Iraq war was for economic reasons http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4507485.stm
The wife of the latest British soldier to be killed in Iraq has blamed Tony Blair for his death
...
His widow, Ms Toward, told the ITV News Channel her message to Mr Blair was: "You should not have sent the troops over, you should not have done that."
If it was not for Mr Blair's actions, "my children would still have their father today and I really do blame him for that", she said.
...
Mr Brown said the Iraq debate had now gone on for more than two years.
"We believe we were making the right decisions in the British national economic interest.
"Of course we have lessons to learn... about the way things were done, like the dossier.
"But at the end of the day we wanted the security of Britain and the British national interest to be advanced.
to me that comment screams the truth behind the war...

*edit: i've edited the title to match the report (ie Brown not Blair)

Strangeways and anodyne 19.03.05 1st we gots to stop these bloody vandals.
The window smashing was ridiculous.
it wil get party people into trouble with the law.
It should not be tolerated.
Strangeways on the case again. The only crew who continue to represent the party scene in manchester. This collective is like a machine that dont stop, and if they say they are gonna parrty, they will. Regardless of anything that might get in their way. For example if they cant get
a venue, those in the know still get to party in their basement! So they got the venue together at the last minute, and a fine huge warehouse it was too. A bit far
outta town, but not hard to find. Strangewayz setup with the projectors atop the huge van. Amazing visuals, the main projection was 60+ feet across, plus a second pjector and lazers. The system seemed to be runnin as it should. The scoops pumping out enuff bass when you were close up. Although they were experiencing problems with the generator and they lost power a few times. They got this sorted out and kept the party rockin. I believe they were playing a mixture of drum n bass, techno and the like, but as i spent most of the time at Anodyne's smaller sound system , i carnt be sure.
Anodyne are new and have only been at a few free parties more recently. These guys play a mixup of all styles includin funk, hip-hop, d'n'b, and anything in between, but mainly a lot of reggae. It is cool to hear people doin this rather than just the techno/gabba stylee. Altough they had a much smaller rig, they certainly had the choicest riddims, and rocked it all night. With a reasonable crowd until people kept switchin off the power on purpose, damn saboteurs. More power to their different style. Bringing back music, that birthed the idea of sound systems in the first place!
Apart form the power problems they only other bad points to be made, were lack of other systems. Where is everybody hiding? Its time to get up and DO your thing. You know who you are. Too many peeps being insular and hiding in hulme! Get your rigs out and give guys! Also why dont all the activists in manchester get involved? Instead of staying at home in the redbricks moaning about bloody usless clubbers, or whatever? At a wareouse, you have a captive audience of hundreds if not thousands of people on neutral ground, who are obviously willing to expand their minds. BEYOND TV, THE BASEMENT cafe, RECLAIM THE STREETS, NATO, DOSUMMAT, whoever, get down give some people some info. Recyling points, street theatre, circus skills, anything?
All in all a great aprty, no trouble , good vibes, and a good crowd. Nice one to everybody for travelling and getting down to this one. Hopefully now the weathers getting better, more people and more rigs will be out to create their own thing. These parties are an amazing place to show people how they can make actions and communicate. You dont need authorization from above, or live up to
some consmerist/capitalist ideals. If you got the skills, the competance and the responsibility,
get up and make your dreams reality.

UK: lets make this a safe summer season! if we want to justify our rights to have free parties, then we must show we can look after ourselves.
With all physical actitivies some accidents will happen - but many can be avoided.
If you take drugs, they can affect your coordination and you may over-estimate your physical capabilities or endurance. Consider this when exploring buildings and fields, scaling any structure, particularly quarries, walls and high places. It may be unwise to do this on your own, particularly if you are under the influence of psychedelics
in the hot summer, lakes and rivers may be inviting, but they can contain hazards, be very cold and can be contaminated (sewage is still dischanged into some rivers, and many are used for fly tipping and drowning stolen vehicles.) Swimming can also be harder "under the influence!"
if any medical emergency happens at a rave and the Ambulance Service is called, the Police will attend as well. This is a standard Emergency Service procedure nowadays as sadly too many people attack paramedics and they now feel they need protection when dealing with situations where there are drug users.
parties are not a place to prove yourself or settle scores. If you want to fight, stay in the town and city pubs.If free parties ever become as violent as pubs/clubs, their justification is instantly removed as they could degenerate into a place where wannabe machos and gangsters have their turf wars, when the NHS end up picking up the pieces they tell the old bill about this. Paramedics don't sign the hippocratic oath unlike doctors and many of them have no problem wilth telling the old bill when they suspect injuries are caused by violence. Blue lights stay together...
There is no justification for bringing replica BB guns, air rifles or any kind of firearm to a party. If you own these items legitimately and want to shoot then do so in a less crowded place with a small group of sober friends. They are not toys to show off or play with at raves - at the very least people can be hurt by stray rounds, at worst if the cops see them they could launch an armed response to shut down the rave.
Lets make this summer one where as much as possible the emergency medical technicians can sit in front of the canteen telly on Sunday watching casualty, and the Air Ambulance stays on its helipad rather than being sent to a remote part of the country to pick up someones broken body.
UK : Greens PPB trashed by media incompetence if the Greens are not given another PPB slot, an apology caption and financial compensation from both C4 and Auntie for this fuckup, then I would suggest all their supporters make a formal complaint to Ofcom about this.
Ukip goes Green in C4 election blunder
Julia Day
Friday April 29, 2005
Channel 4 has been forced to apologise to the Green party after mistakenly transmitting its election broadcast with subtitles from the UK Independence Party.Last night's broadcast, promoting the party's vision of a green future, was directed by Repo Man film-maker Alex Cox and set to a Franz Ferdinand soundtrack.
But subtitles for a Ukip broadcast, which cursed the European Union, were screened simultaneously.
The Greens are furious that some viewers may now think they take Ukip's negative stance on Europe, immigration and political correctness.
"It's pretty awful, It totally lost the message," said a Green party spokesman, adding that representations are being made to Channel 4 about the mistake.
Channel 4 said overlaying the Ukip subtitles was a genuine mistake that was rectified during the broadcast, which began at 7.55pm in a prime slot after the network's flagship news bulletin.
"It was a rare and honest mistake. The subtitles were stopped before the end of the programme and replaced with an apology. Only a small percentage of viewers would have been affected," a spokesman added.
The Green spokesman said Channel 4 told his party that the erroneous subtitles - which ran for three of the broadcast's five minutes - were added as a result of "human error" at BBC Broadcast, the company responsible for adding the subtitles. However, the Green election broadcast shown on other channels had the correct subtitles.
He added that Channel 4 said it would have to consult its lawyers as to whether the broadcast could be reshown because of the strict rules governing party election broadcasts to ensure fairness.
Channel 4 was unable to say if any redress will be made to the Green party.
The Greens - in common with other small parties such as Ukip and the British National party - are only entitled to one election broadcast, unlike the three afforded to the main parties. The election broadcast represents a single - and therefore vital - opportunity to attract voters.
Ukip is delighted with the mix-up, however. Its own election broadcast will be screened tonight and a spokesman for the party said he hoped the extra, albeit erroneous, exposure its policies received will help attract a few more votes.
"We're not letting [the Greens] put their subtitles on our broadcast, though. Although we have a green octopus in our broadcast. It swims up the Thames and swallows the Houses of Parliament," he added.
