- Jay Day Update! Cannabis Carnival moves to Sunday 15th May and marches to Central London. The 7th Annual Cannabis Carnival March will now take place on Sunday 15th May. Marching to a Rally in Central London. This follows the ban by Lambeth Council of the 2005 Cannabis festival in Brockwell Park. The re-classification of cannabis is in danger of being rolled back by media exaggerations of cannabis research and pre-election games. Now more than ever we need a huge march to central London to show the demand for safe use, regulation and legalisation is stronger than ever. The action of some people in Lambeth Council in banning the festival has overshadowed the issue of cannabis. We are bitterly disappointed not to be able to put on the festival in May. This would have been our 7th year. We had problems in 2003 which we put right and we all felt 2004 was the best yet. We feel that a few people in the Council have used their influence to stop the enjoyment of thousands of people. We are clear that the main complaints about the event came from within the Council and yet only 4 from the public. This is another example of bad drug laws causing a clampdown on public access. Numerous pubs have been closed down because of dealing and now one of London largest free festivals has also been stopped. Times must change. The current research which confirms what many people have known, that people, in particular youth, with a pre-disposition or family history of psychosis may be at risk from strong skunk. Our reply is not to reclassify back to Class B but to have regulated cannabis cafes which would include age limits and clear information on strength and type. We would not allow advertising which should ensure the £6B /year trade stays in small hands and keeps the PLC's out of it. It should be noted by prohibitionists that Holland has less people and less youth smoking cannabis than in UK, and most importantly because supply is separate they have half the rate of heroin addiction per head of population than in the UK. So we have to say sorry to the thousands of people who have supported the festival, and the hundreds of people who worked and played to make the festival happen for the last six years. We plan to be back next year. We ask that people sign the petition and come and make some noise on the Carnival march on Sunday 15th May. www.cannabisfestival.co.uk

- Scottish Squatting Laws Anyone know anything about them, as a mate of mine just had his squat cracked? Apparently there is a legal loophole that has come in recently but we have no idea what it is. Any info would be greatly aprreciated. I'm not adverse to trawling legal documents myself, I just don't know where to find them.

Drug taking doctor is suspended An anaesthetist who collapsed on duty after injecting himself with drugs he stole from work has been found guilty of serious professional misconduct. David Moorman, 31, of Fareham, Hants, said stress caused him to steal the painkiller Fentanyl from Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester, in October 2003. After collapsing in theatre, he was admitted to the hospital, where days later he stole more of the same drug. A General Medical Council panel suspended him for 12 months on Tuesday. It ruled that Dr Moorman, a specialist registrar in anaesthetics, must face a review after the suspension. The panel said the incident was isolated "but a serious breach of professional standards." Dr Moorman, who admits having taken cocaine in the past, apologised to the panel, saying his behaviour was "dishonest, inappropriate and put patients at risk." I like a drink as well - but same as with everything else, please check yourselves and don't put yourself in danger.. Drunken prank led to death fall A drunken "prank" resulted in a man plunging through a flat window to his death, an inquest has heard. Keen amateur rugby player Gareth Mason, 22, was impaled on railings below, Aberystwyth Coroner's Court heard on Wednesday. The hearing was told how he had dropped his trousers during the prank after he returned to his flat with friends following a pub crawl. A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded at the hearing on Wednesday. Mr Mason was "heavily intoxicated" at the time and lost his balance. The court was told that he had been on a pub crawl with friends before his death in the early hours of November 10 last year. He had a very high reading which was approaching levels of 350 miligrams, when people have been known to die Coroner Peter Brunton The group, which consisted of men and women, had returned to Mr Mason's first floor flat in Aberystwyth's Upper Portland Street. While eating a kebab he was seen staggering and just moments later pulling down his trousers and underwear, the hearing was told. Witnesses then described how he "waddled" to the window, and shortly after lost his balance and fell. The pathologist's report noted that Mr Mason, originally from Cardigan, had 292 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood - four times over the legal drink drive limit. Coroner Peter Brunton said of the level: "He had a very high reading which was approaching levels of 350 miligrams, when people have been known to die." In her statement to police Katie Stansby, who was in the flat at the time, said someone mentioned girls to Mr Mason and he dropped his trousers and "jokingly" shouted "who wants some of this?". "He said it as a joke," said Miss Stansby. "He said it out of the window, but there was no-one out there. "His trousers and pants were around his ankles and he could not move. He bent forward and went out of the window. "He put both of his hands up, opened palms, and tried to stop himself, but he missed the window and fell through. "It looked like he lost his balance. There was no-one near him at the time." Mr Mason sustained 15 injuries and marks to his body in the fall, but the major ones were to his lower neck and upper chest, the inquest heard. His death was due to blood loss, a pathologist's report noted. The inquest also heard from David Wilson who shared the flat with Mr Mason. Mr Mason had appeared at the window in a similar manner the night before, he said, but that time was saved from falling through by a friend who managed to grab him. The following morning when they had sobered up, he said Mr Mason had acknowledged what a dangerous stunt it was. Recording a verdict of death by misadventure, Ceredigion coroner Peter Brunton said: "What would otherwise have been a prank has taken a turn and resulted in death. "It's not for me or anyone else to criticise. It's doubly tragic because of the youth of the deceased. The death was so unnecessary." After the inquest, Mr Mason's father, Tony, said he would be working with young people to highlight the dangers of binge drinking.
