How many have driven under the influence of drugs??

I haven’t myself, but have been a passenger in a car where the driver was on cocain and weed..

A mother has denied causing the deaths of her two daughters and two other youngsters in a crash.

Davina Smith, 30, of Tilbury, denied causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drugs when she appeared at Basildon Crown Court.

She is accused of causing the deaths of her daughters Karis and Kalli Goyette, aged eight and four, and Lee Gray and Kezia Adger, both 16.

The collision happened in Tilbury, Essex, in January.
All of those who died were in a Ford Fiesta which was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa. Ms Smith will stand trial at a later date.

A mother has been convicted of killing her two young daughters in a head-on collision while she was high on drugs.

Four-year-old Kalli Goyette and her sister Karis, eight, died after their mother Davina Smith lost control of a stolen car in January of this year.

Kezia Adger and Lee Gray, both 16, who were in the same car, also died.

Smith, 31, from Tilbury, was convicted of four counts of causing death by careless driving “while unfit through drugs” at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

She has been remanded in custody until 2 February, to allow for the preparation of reports. But Judge David Radford warned Smith she should expect nothing other than a “substantial” term of imprisonment.

      Traces of amphetamines
Earlier in the trial jurors heard how Smith had initially claimed Lee Gray was at the wheel of the stolen Ford Fiesta when it was involved in a head-on collision in St Chad’s Road, Tilbury.

Although Smith later accepted she had been driving she chose not to give evidence.

Jurors heard Smith had had a series of late nights and traces of amphetamines and cannabis were found in her system during hospital tests when she was being treated for injuries. The Fiesta had been stolen in Westcliff-on-Sea the day before the accident.

Could have been one of my friends driving

what? your friends drive their kids around in stolen cars while high on speed? didnt think you hung around those types….

i regularly get lifts back from raves from people who are still on MDMA and just around the place from people who are stoned. i dont have any complaints. i think the worst drug of all time for driving on is acohol, cos unlike the other two i mentioned, it does not raise awareness, only depletes it.

        I don’t..

But I have done a lot of stupid things in my life..

Although I don’t own a car I have regularly cycled in states of mind where the road was looking like a cartoon film – and I would often ride 25 miles there and back to raves….. (although TBH I was probably no worse than half the people who ride competitively and take stimulants)

OTOH I think this is a very unfortunate case though and different to most ravers who nowadays don’t steal cars to attend parties (although it was more common in the early 90s)

there are two problems with drug driving though..

there is a danger people may drive faster than normal, or the excitement makes people forget road safety (I have heard that collisions are not uncommon in the convoys attending East Anglian raves as people are in such a hurry not to miss the convoy :you_crazy)

The greatest danger IMO is from the morning after when people are on a comedown and tired and their reactions are slower (also people tend to drink more at raves these days), and when they are time-pressured due to having work the next day/family stuff etc..

This Essex incident sounds more like this woman went on a multi-day drugs binge; then a few days later she realised that she had to take these children somewhere and decided to drive the car whilst tired (it mentions she has had a series of late nights)

Was in a minor crash last night, although the driver was a bit stoned. I dont think it could have been avoided at all and the way in which he reacted stopped us from hitting the verge side on which would have bin alot more dodgy. Bloody ice!!!!

          Are you okay Raver :hopeless:

I’ll be dead honest and say that i’ve driven in many different states of mind. I really wouldn’t recommend anyone else do the same, but i’ve got a pretty good idea of my own personal limits.

I have often, towards the end of a party, had to make the judgement about when i am fit to drive, and i do take that decision pretty seriously. If someone tries to bully me into drivin b4 i’m ready, they can find another lift.

I think it is a dangerous thing to do, if you make a bad call, so how do you lot justify it to yourselves?

I assume some of you must do it, or are knowing passengers, cause there aint no buses to the parties in the middle of nowhere…

fair play mate, drink drivers are pretty fucking irrisponsible. but as my mate has now learnt it doesnt pay. hes got a 9 month ban.

my bro also crashed his car while my parent were on holiday while he was pissed!! this was before he passed his test tho.

i think an instant two year ban and lower maximum drink limits would be suitable for drink drivers.

its a cliche, but give your keys to a mate. he wont let you drive pissed or fucked if he is a real friend. even the most sensible of drivers can make a bad decision when out of it. mate of mine drove home so fucked he cant remember doing it teh other week so his keys are with a mate every time they go out now. it really does seem to work well.

I remember once seeing someone (who had been taking way too much K) trying to drive out of a Ridgeway rave and not doing too well at all; his friend in the passenger seat eventually got out, took the keys out of the steering column and put them in his pocket…

(this description doesn’t do it justice; as no one actually got hurt and no-ones car rammed there was a fair bit of comedy value there)

To be fair the driver took this quite well and just burst out laughing as it dawned on him why his friend had done this and why there was lots of other people around laughing at him..

Eventually he sobered up and they got out safely..
